Overview

Patient Service Representative – full‑time position working Monday‑Friday with an hourly rate of $20.00–$24.00 per hour in Arlington Heights, IL. Working under general supervision, performs general medical office functions including communicating with patients in a friendly and courteous manner. Excellent customer service and empathy are required.

Responsibilities
  • Answers phones for a fast paced office, asks appropriate questions to assess patients’ needs, takes efficient messages with proper information, obtains, receives, and documents accurate data, and redirects calls appropriately (average of 100–125 patients per day).
  • Work closely with clinical staff.
  • Establish good communication with other departments, team members, other physician offices, hospitals, or patients in response to requests for information, follow up, or problem‑solving as needed.
  • Ensure all insurance, demographic and eligibility information is in the system.
  • Schedules return appointments for patients, including in the infusion room.
  • Enter orders as directed by MD.
  • Submit electronic tasks for pre‑authorization of services and/or referrals.
  • Schedual new treatments as directed by supervisor.
  • Provide patients with appointment details such as time, location, directions, and instructions; maintain and update physician schedules to ensure accurate patient scheduling.
  • Provide coverage for other coworkers during lunches, vacation, and illness.
  • Provide excellent customer service to patients and families; demonstrate compassion and empathy.
  • Monitor the receipt and indexing of faxes received, scan documents as needed, and send faxes as ordered.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; minimum of 1 year medical office experience highly desired.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA guidelines and regulations.
  • Successfully complete required e‑learning courses within 90 days of the start date.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize work in a fast‑paced environment and multitask.
Competencies Needed
  • Proficient in medical terminology.
  • Previous knowledge of Electronic Medical Records required.
  • Previous oncology experience highly desired.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel) highly desired.
  • Adaptability:
    Handles day‑to‑day work challenges confidently; willing and able to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities; demonstrates flexibility.
  • Commitment to quality:
    Emphasizes the need to deliver quality products and services to patients, families, physicians, and other staff members.
