DescriptionThe Generative AI Innovation Center (GenAIIC) at AWS helps customers accelerate the use of generative AI and realize transformational business opportunities. This cross‑functional team of ML scientists, engineers, architects, and strategists works step‑by‑step with customers and partners to build bespoke solutions that harness the power of generative AI. We are looking for an experienced and talented Principal Data Science Manager who brings a strong blend of experience in machine learning, generative and agentic AI, effective organizational and interpersonal skills, and experience building scalable AI/ML solutions using cloud computing.
As the technical “face” of GenAIIC, you will drive discussions with senior technical and business leaders within customers and partners, provide guidance to data/research/applied scientists and software engineers on the team, and build agentic AI solutions while thinking strategically about business, product, and technical issues. You will also be an excellent technical team manager, hiring, developing, and retaining high‑quality talent.
Key Job Responsibilities- Collaborate with ML scientists, engineers and architects to research, design, and develop generative and agentic AI solutions that address real‑world challenges.
- Interact with customers to understand business problems, help them implement AI solutions, deliver briefings and deep‑dive sessions, and guide them on adoption patterns and production paths.
- Lead people management responsibilities, including driving incubation efforts in areas such as Responsible AI, Physical AI, and Agentic AI.
- Create and deliver best‑practice recommendations, blog posts, and presentations tailored to technical, business, and executive stakeholders.
- Provide customer and market feedback to Product and Engineering teams to help define product direction.
- Master’s degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, machine learning or equivalent quantitative field.
- 5+ years of people management experience.
- Experience distilling informal customer requirements into problem definitions, dealing with ambiguity and competing objectives.
- Experience hiring and leading experienced scientists and a proven record of developing junior members from academia or industry to successful career tracks.
- 10+ years as a scientist or science manager.
- PhD in computer science, mathematics, statistics, machine learning or equivalent quantitative field.
- 10+ years of practical work applying ML to solve complex problems for large‑scale applications.
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language.
- 5+ years of hands‑on work in big data, machine learning and natural language processing.
- Experience with AWS technologies for machine learning such as Sage Maker, Bedrock, S3, and EC2.
