Job OverviewThe System Administrator is responsible for setting up, maintaining, and supporting IT infrastructure and system components, including hardware, software, networks, virtualization platforms (VMWare preferred), servers, security tools, email systems, and user management within a SAP environment. This role ensures high availability, security, data integrity, and optimal performance for the organization’s mission‑critical systems, while adhering to established policies, standards, and best practices.
Responsibilities- System and Server Administration
- Install, configure, update, and manage servers (physical and virtual), storage, and network resources.
- Deploy, support, manage, and maintain VMWare vSphere environments, including ESXi hosts, vCenter, clusters, virtual machines, and networking components.
- Install, configure, and manage Windows servers and other operating systems within VMWare and physical environments.
- Plan, execute, and verify data redundancy, system backups, snapshots, restores, and disaster recovery testing.
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, system, and network issues; recover failed systems.
- Perform repairs on faulty system/server hardware and monitor system/server configuration and interoperability.
- Perform routine and scheduled audits of all systems, including backups.
- Security and Compliance
- Implement and enforce IT and security policies, standards, and procedures; comply with organizational security controls and document systems administration practices.
- Apply system and network hardening techniques, maintain baseline system security (STIGs), and manage patches, updates, and VMWare security hardening standards.
- User and Resource Management
- Establish and manage user accounts, network rights, and access to systems and equipment.
- Handle user/group administration, security permissions, and group policies; support identity and access management.
- Monitoring and Optimization
- Monitor and optimize system/server performance, availability, capacity, and serviceability; analyze resource utilization and perform proactive troubleshooting.
- Use performance tuning tools and techniques; monitor data‑center health and respond to hardware issues.
- Documentation and Collaboration
- Develop, document, and maintain standard operating procedures, virtualization documentation, diagrams, and guidelines.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners, IT, and application teams to provision resources, coordinate projects, and communicate status and achievements.
- Automation and Innovation
- Assist in the automation and orchestration of provisioning and operational tasks (e.g., scripting using Power
CLI, Power Shell). - Enable smarter and faster business processes and develop analytics for meaningful insights.

- Provide expert technical support, assist in root cause analysis, and respond to system emergencies as required.
- Support the maintenance of internal infrastructure, including desktop and laptop computers, printers, phones, routers, switches, firewalls, and internet/intranet/LAN/WAN/network segments.
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility
- Minimum 3+ years of hands‑on experience in system administration
- Experience with VMWare vSphere (ESXi, vCenter, vMotion, DRS, HA, etc.)
- Proficiency in managing Windows servers in a virtualized environment
- Familiarity with automation/scripting (Power Shell, Power
CLI) - VMWare certification (e.g., VCP-DCV) preferred
- Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility
- CompTIA Security+ certification (minimum required)
AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee‑owners. The salary range for this position is USD $91,600.00/Yr.
- USD $/Yr. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
