Cable Technician – Onsite in Arlington, VA
Age Solutions LLC is seeking a Cable Technician to join our team onsite at the Pentagon in Arlington, VA in support of our DoD customer. Telecommuting is not permitted. This role requires full-time onsite presence.
Job DescriptionThe Cable Technician is responsible for installation and documentation of new and updated Inside Plant cable infrastructure, including conduit, cable trays, copper, coax, fiber, and all associated elements throughout the Pentagon, Mark Center, and other National Capital Region buildings.
Responsibilities- Analyze, administer, and maintain telecommunications and network cabling infrastructure.
- Execute tasks assigned by Coordinators related to Category 6 cabling, Voice over IP networks, and fiber optic infrastructure.
- Install, maintain and repair voice and data communications systems.
- Interpret service orders, circuit diagrams, and electrical schematics.
- Test, locate, install, and repair cabling for trouble calls and perform routine maintenance.
- Verify work order information and receipt of all necessary equipment.
- Verify service by testing installed cabling, identifying, correcting, or escalating problems.
- Use network cabling test equipment (network testers, copper cable testers, fiber OTDRs, power meters).
- Document network by labeling, routing equipment and cables, and recording configuration diagrams.
- Troubleshoot and repair outages; test backup procedures; update documentation.
- Identify, track, and remove abandoned cable, keeping cables neatly tied and bundled while maintaining safety standards.
- Dress, terminate, and test CAT6 and fiber optic cabling.
- Follow JSP and commercial best practice procedures and standards required for installation of cable racks and wiring.
- Participate in special projects as required.
- Citizenship and Clearance:
- US Citizenship required.
- Active DoD Top Secret security clearance required and must be maintained.
- Education:
- Associate’s degree or equivalent.
- Additional 2 years of related technical experience may substitute for the degree.
- Experience:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience (5 years without an associate degree).
- Skills and Knowledge:
- Familiar with BICSI rules, regulations, and standards.
- Effective communication to personnel of various expertise levels.
- Strong customer support skills in a high-visibility environment.
- In-depth knowledge of TDM networks.
- Ability to work with power tools and ladders.
- Teamwork and supervisor communication.
- Computer literacy with basic networking skills.
- Maintain current knowledge of relevant technologies.
- Travel Required:
25-50%.
- Certification:
- BICSI Installer 1 (INST1) – willingness to obtain within 90 days of joining.
- Prolonged periods of sitting and computer work.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to crawl in tight spaces, and climb ladders and elevated platforms to install equipment and cables.
Salary: $65,000+
