Cable Technician

Our work depends on Cable Technician joining our Joint Service Provider Enterprise Transport Management - Next Gen (JSP ETM - NG) program at the Pentagon in Arlington, VA. Due to the nature of work this role entails, telecommuting is not permitted and will require the employee to report full‑time onsite.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze, administer, and maintain telecommunications and network cabling infrastructure.
  • Perform tasks assigned by Coordinators in connection with service orders and repair activities related to Category 6 cabling, Voice over IP networks (VOIP), and fiber optic cabling infrastructure.
  • Install, maintain, and repair voice and data communications systems.
  • Interpret service orders, circuit diagrams, and electrical schematics.
  • Test, locate, install, and repair cabling infrastructure associated with trouble calls, and perform routine maintenance.
  • Verify work order information and receipt of all necessary equipment and information.
  • Verify service by testing installed cabling, identifying, correcting, or escalating problems.
  • Use network cabling test equipment including network testers, copper cable testers, fiber OTDRs, and fiber power meters.
  • Document network by labeling and routing equipment and cables; recording configuration diagrams and specifications.
  • Maintain network by troubleshooting and repairing outages; testing network backup procedures; updating documentation.
  • Identify, track, and remove abandoned cable, and keep cable neatly tied and bundled while maintaining safety standards.
  • Dress, terminate, and test cables and components including CAT6 and fiber optic cabling.
  • Follow JSP and commercial best practice procedures, standards required for installation of cable racks, wiring of the racks, and testing required during installation.
  • Participate in special projects as required.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree and a minimum of 3 years’ experience required. An additional 2 years of related technical experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
  • Active Secret security clearance required.
  • BICSI certification required.
  • Familiar with BICSI rules, regulations, and standards.
  • Effective communication skills at all organizational levels; robust customer support skills in a high‑visibility environment.
  • In‑depth knowledge of TDM networks.
  • Ability to work with power tools and ladders.
  • Team‑oriented; excellent supervisor and colleague communication.
  • Computer literate with basic networking skills.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned.
Compensation & Benefits

The likely hourly rate for this position is between $34.74 - $47.00. Salary will be set based on experience, geographic location, and contractual requirements.
