Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), provider of cutting‑edge cloud‑based integration, automated testing and data analysis for complex, mission‑critical systems in the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD), is seeking a System Administrator to be based in our Arlington, VA office. Leveraging advanced software automation, model‑based systems engineering (MBSE), and AI‑driven capabilities, IDT accelerates capability development, enhances operational readiness, and reduces lifecycle costs for the Department of Defense.

Overview

IDT is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Systems Administrator with 5+ years of experience to manage, maintain, and secure our critical virtual infrastructure, physical and Linux/Windows environment. The ideal candidate has a deep technical background in virtualization/physical best practices, excellent troubleshooting skills, and a proven ability to maintain highly available, secure, and performant systems.

All applicants must currently possess an active U.S. Security Clearance. Responsibilities
  • Design, install, configure, and maintain VMware vSphere environments, including ESXi hosts and vCenter Server.
  • Install, configure, test, and maintain operating systems, application software, and system management tools.
  • Ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability, security, and performance; implement and maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, processes, and infrastructure maps.
  • Work closely with other IT staff and business units to understand needs and implement solutions that meet organizational objectives.
  • Install, configure, secure, and maintain Linux operating systems (Red Hat) in both virtual and physical environments.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts (e.g., Bash, Python, Power

    CLI, Ansible Playbook) to streamline routine administrative tasks, deployments, and reporting.
  • Provide Tier 3/4 support to quickly diagnose and resolve complex system and virtual/physical system performance issues, system configuration problems, and outages.
Minimum

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of hands‑on experience in Systems Administration, with a strong focus on virtualization and Linux.
  • An associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent full‑time professional experience.
  • Security+ CE certification.
Required Skills
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper‑V).
  • Familiarity with network management, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and firewalls.
  • Proficiency with backup and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Solid experience with Power Shell or Bash scripting for automation.
  • Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) is a plus.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.
Preferred Skills
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP).
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA).
  • NIST 800‑53 Security Control Experience.
  • DISA STIGs.

Pay Range*

$114,000 - $184,000 or $135,000 - $231,000. This amount may not be reflective of actual compensation that may be earned as pay is dependent on a candidate’s experience, skills, and education. The posted range does not include bonuses, commissions, tips, or other benefits. IDT is often looking to place multiple candidates at various levels. Therefore, more than one pay range has been included, commensurate with experience.
