Summary
We are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer Lead to provide IT systems engineering operations and technology advancements to the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR). The mission of AFOSR is to identify opportunities for significant scientific advancements and breakthrough research around the world and to bring together researchers and resources to advance revolutionary basic research for Air Force needs.

Our customer provides IT operations, maintenance, application development, IA, and communications support for AFOSR.

This is an exciting opportunity to oversee all aspects of systems administration, systems integration, network operations performance, and communications support for AFOSR staff desktop and mobile computing needs and, where appropriate, interfaces to external communication networks including NIPRNET, SIPRNET, and DREN, as well as video teleconference traffic and other third party technical interfaces and agencies.

Responsibilities

The primary duties of this position are:

  • Perform independent verification, validation, and project management for current and future IT infrastructure projects.
  • Lead a team of 3 system engineers and administrators to provide IT operations and maintenance support for all AFOSR IT networks and systems, including maintenance, STIG management, and upgrades/refreshes of workstations, servers, cloud services, printers, networks, and vendor-specific hardware.
  • Provide hands-on Tier 1-2 level services for Microsoft-related technologies, including, but not limited to Windows Active Directory, File Server, and Print Server.
  • Provide physical and virtual Tier 2 support at the network level: WAN/LAN connectivity, routers, and security.
  • Support remote access solutions: VPN, Terminal Services.
  • Support backup and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Provide support for VMware vSphere/vCenter/ESXi infrastructure, including patching, upgrades, and troubleshooting VMware-related issues.
  • Provide support for Storage Area Networks (SAN).
  • Monitor service desk and remote monitoring and management system alerts and notifications, ensuring appropriate responses and communication with has taken place.
  • Produce/maintain documentation for use in configuration, repair, and troubleshooting of hardware, software, and network operating systems.
  • Implement systems as needed based on network application requirements.
  • Provide Tier 1 management of Cisco CUCM (VOIP Systems).
Supervisory Duties
  • Approve timesheets; approve requests for time off; communicate expectations and manage employee performance; coach/mentor staff; evaluate performance; resolve complaints; discipline and, when necessary, terminate employees; communicate and coordinate with Government Management, Headquarters Management, and Management; complete insight and involvement in annual review process; perform quarterly check-ins; complete annual reviews; input to team composition, promotions, and disciplinary actions; drive exceptional performance.
Qualifications

Required Education and Certifications

  • BA/BS Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related fields – Preferred
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP) – Required
  • DOD 8570.01-M IAT-II certification – Required

Background Needed and Years of Experience

  • Active Top-Secret Clearance.
  • 10+ years of overall IT-related experience.
  • 8+ years of progressive IT system administration and/or engineering experience.
  • Team lead and/or project/task management experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Significant experience in managing and/or integrating Windows Active Directory infrastructure
  • VMware ESX/VSphere experience and Multi-factor authentication
  • Experience in resourcing, staffing, and delivering technical solutions within a given timeframe
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to effectively multitask in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment
