Managing Director, Nature Finance – Overview

The Managing Director, Nature Finance leads Nature Vest’s team of impact finance professionals in developing and executing impact investment and sovereign debt products. This senior finance expert provides oversight, manages teams to originate, close transactions, source capital, and structure deals to deliver conservation outcomes aligned with TNC’s 2030 Goals. They oversee projects across geographies, cultivate partners, manage external relationships with finance institutions, NGOs, governments, and other stakeholders.

The Managing Director directly manages Impact Investments and Sustainable Debt teams and reports to the Managing Director of Nature Vest.

Location

Washington, D.C. or New York City preferred; other locations will be considered.

What You’ll Bring – Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and closing of sovereign and non‑sovereign impact investment and debt transactions.
  • Structure, negotiate, and close debt and equity transactions, including emerging market deals.
  • Design and implement complex impact investing structures and debt swap mechanisms.
  • Ensure programmatic commitments, policies, financial standards, and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance.
  • Direct the design and implementation of projects, setting deadlines and ensuring accountability.
  • Make strategic decisions based on analysis, experience, and judgment.
  • Negotiate complex legal agreements from a business and financial perspective.
  • Work at a senior level, leading cross‑functional teams.
  • Communicate effectively in written and verbal English.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and 9+ years of related work experience in investment banking, multilateral finance or government entities.
  • Debt and structured finance experience and expertise in structuring, negotiating, and closing debt and equity transactions.
  • Experience with debt swap structures, terms and mechanics.
  • Experience with impact investing structures.
  • Track record of ensuring programmatic commitments and compliance.
  • Strong project management and strategic decision‑making skills.
  • Experience negotiating complex legal agreements.
  • Senior leadership experience.
  • Fluency in English.
Desired Qualifications
  • 15–20+ years experience in financial services and transactions.
  • Experience managing a team of finance professionals to close transactions.
  • Multi‑cultural or cross‑cultural experience.
  • Strong collaborator who can work across the organization and with NGO partners.
  • Experience both in and outside the U.S.; strong preference for global experience.
  • Independent judgment to solve complex problems.
  • Outstanding analytical and project‑management capabilities.
  • Superior written and oral communications.
  • Second language proficiency (Spanish and/or French) is a strong plus.
Salary Information

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally $250,000‑$300,000 per year for U.S. employees.
