Director, Business Development & Corporate Relations

ASTRO, the American Society for Radiation Oncology, supports the radiation therapy teams that treat more than one million cancer patients each year. We are seeking an experienced Director, Business Development & Corporate Relations. Reporting to the VP, Business Development & Marketing, the role directs all aspects of business development, fundraising and revenue diversification.

Key responsibilities include cultivating funding relationships and partnerships with corporations and foundations aligned with the Society’s mission and Strategic Plan.

The Director manages staff in the Corporate Relations department, oversees the Corporate Relations Committee and Corporate Advisory Council, and plans, executes and manages multiple development projects with an emphasis on relationship қис development, stewardship and fund generation. The position is hybrid; based in Arlington, VA, eligible for telework up to three days per week after an introductory training period.

Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Develop and implement corporate relationship strategies, including prospect development, messaging, social media, solicitation, special events, annual meeting sponsor ships and other initiatives.

  • Identify and explore new corporate initiatives, benefits, dues reviews, implementation and program development.

  • Oversee the content on the Corporate Relations section of the ASTRO website to keep it current.
  • Plan and execute ASTRO’s Annual Meeting support/advertising program.
  • Supervise the Corporate Advisory Council and manage all communications and logistics.
  • Prospect, recruit and engage industry for the Radiopharmaceutical Membership Roundtable and manage associated benefits.
  • Oversee development efforts, including grant submissions for corporate fundraising to support ASTRO’s programs and meetings.
  • Manage administrative functions of the department.
  • Provide guidance and support to ROI staff for effective collaboration with volunteers and staff.
  • Manage the department budget.
  • Stay abreast of business development, sales and fundraising trends.
  • Understand relevant rules and regulations and their impact on programs, budgets and operations.
  • Act as a liaison between ASTRO and industry to promote public awareness, patient safety initiatives and emerging therapies.
  • Offer guidance and solutions for fundraising challenges or atypical situations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Successful Candidates Will Have

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, preferably within a medical specialty society or association.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of fundraising principles, živcmk practices and techniques.
  • Experience with online grant submission processes.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Superior interpersonal skills and a proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Mature, responsible, and able to engage diverse audiences, including volunteer leadership.
  • Demonstrated success in soliciting and closing multi‑six and seven‑figure gifts from individuals, foundations and corporations.

  • Special event planning and marketing expertise.
  • Familiarity with volunteer association governance and experience with volunteer committees preferred.
  • Awareness of philanthropy and technology trends to increase awareness and donations, including social media and online fundraising.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Proficiency निकालM_MS Office Suite and experience with an association management system or similar database software preferred.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands

General office. Approximately 10–15% travel required.
