The Associate Director of Communications will manage USCRI’s internal and external communications to elevate the agency and its work and highlight solutions for refugees, unaccompanied children, victims of trafficking, and other immigrants and raise them to the attention of the public, policy makers and organizations of influence. This position will report to the Senior Vice President, supervise Communications staff, and work closely with policy, development, and other senior staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage all aspects of the Communications department, including print and social media, publications, web content and design, marketing materials, and events;
  • Supervise Communications department staff, setting goals, deliverables, benchmarks, and timetables;
  • Collaborate with management to develop and implement an effective communications strategy based on our target audience and USCRI mission;
  • Write, edit, and distribute content, including publications, press releases, op-eds, web content, annual reports, speeches, and other marketing material that communicates the organization's activities, products and/or services;
  • Oversee and contribute to production of materials for social media platforms and USCRI websites;
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with journalists, keeping a media database and collating analytics and metrics, arranging interviews for senior staff, and responding to media inquiries;
  • Conduct outreach to print and electronic media, direct and assist in the production of communications and information materials, edit USCRI stories and other publications, and arrange public appearances and speaking engagements for USCRI Board and staff;
  • Seek opportunities to enhance the reputation of the agency, and coordinate publicity events as required;
  • Ensure consistency of USCRI branding on all print and social media communications;
  • Manage the USCRI website, including site infrastructure and content maintenance, updates, and hosting contract; and
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory and management experience in the nonprofit advocacy or international humanitarian sectors is required;
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience with media and communications work in the nonprofit advocacy or international humanitarian sectors is essential;
  • A bachelors degree is required; relevant field preferred, including journalism, communications, international relations, international development, public relations, or the social sciences;
    Masters degree preferred;
  • Knowledge of refugee, unaccompanied children, trafficking, asylum and/or immigration issues required;
  • Knowledge of marketing, advertising, and promotional communications;
  • Demonstrated experience in refugee work overseas and/or other immigration work is a plus;
  • Excellent writing, editing and oral communications skills across all media platforms;
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and web content management system software is required; experience with Word Press is a plus;
  • Proficient in social media strategies;
  • Networking and relationship-building skills, including excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to work and foster multi-cultural teamwork and strong engagement;
  • Must be a self-starter with sound judgment, knowledge, curiosity, creativity, integrity and dedication to the human rights of refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers and displaced people
  • Exceptional time management and attention to detail; and
  • Demonstrated support of USCRI’s values by exhibiting respect for others, maintenance of confidential information and an appreciation of a multicultural workplace.

TRAINING REQUIRMENTS

  • Satisfactory completion of USCRI’s Orientation and Training; and
  • Complete additional training as identified by supervisor(s) or Human Resources
