Job Description
The Advanced Capabilities Project Manager is a key member of the LMGA Technology Team, responsible for driving long‑term growth by connecting Lockheed‑Martin’s capabilities with U.S. Government research and prototyping programs. The manager will cultivate relationships with senior officials across the Department of War— including the Office of the Secretary of War staff, Service research labs, DARPA, and the Strategic Capabilities Office— to identify new business opportunities, support “keep sold” activities, and shape Lockheed‑Martin’s strategy within the DoW R&D landscape.
The ideal candidate will possess deep insight into DoW R&D organizations and processes, as well as a keen understanding of emerging defense technologies and missions. The role also partners closely with Legislative Affairs to develop coordinated congressional engagement plans.
- Support corporate functions and business areas to establish and achieve their domestic business objectives, with specific expertise and customer insights in OSW and Service programs and processes for contracted R&D.
- Coordinate and support the execution of LM advocacy and strategy campaigns to engage external stakeholders in support of key R&D or prototype areas such as hypersonics, directed energy, autonomous systems, and international R&D.
- Manage the coordination of various internal stakeholders and cross‑functional teams for high‑profile initiatives.
- Participate in strategy reviews, color teams, and other business rhythms, providing subject‑matter expertise on R&D issues, priorities, “voice of the customer,” and related insights.
- Maintain currency on emerging technologies and potential applications for addressing critical national security needs.
- Perform customer data analysis and budget analysis for key R&D initiatives.
- Travel as necessary to support LM business activities, customer engagements, and approved training activities.
- Track record of interacting with congressional staff supporting defense authorizations and appropriations.
- Experience in defense policy or strategy environments; participation with think tanks or policy institutes is a plus.
- Subject‑matter expertise in at least one major advanced capability area (e.g., hypersonics, directed energy, missile defense, counter UAS).
- Prior experience in strategic planning, business development or project management for DoW technology programs.
- Excellent writing skills and experience in executive and/or principal preparation.
- Advanced degree in a technical or policy discipline (Engineering, Physics, Public Policy, Defense Studies, etc.).
