Job DescriptionHuman Resources announces an opening for 0.5 FTE Building Maintenance Mechanic (shift to be determined). This is a 12 month, 20 hours per week schedule, Grade M-08 position. The work schedule is subject to change, depending upon the needs of APS. Incumbents are hired for the position, not for a specific shift.
ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE CLASS:
Perform work at the journeyman level in several trades. Assist in inspection of gauges, meters, controls, and equipment (e.g., HVAC systems) and prepare inspection reports. Assist in making adjustments, servicing, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance and filter replacement on all HVAC equipment. Participate in general and preventive maintenance, adjustments, and minor repairs to electrical and plumbing systems. Perform general carpentry tasks, repair drywall, paint, replace wallpaper, adjust and repair hardware on doors, repair cabinets, counters, tables, chairs, and replace ceiling tiles.
Perform related work as required or assigned.
Exposure to potential chemical hazards (cleaning liquids, solvents, solutions), biological hazards (restroom cleaning), physical hazards (custodian equipment). Exposure to dust, fumes, adverse weather. Frequent use of safety clothing and equipment and compliance with safety procedures.
Experience and Qualification Requirements
Minimum Education , Training, and Experience
Required:
Completion of the twelfth grade, completion of a formal apprenticeship in one of the building or related trades, and considerable experience in general maintenance or repair work; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the above noted knowledge, skills, and ability.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Good knowledge of methods, materials, tools and practices used in several building trades. Skill in care and use of tools for mechanical equipment repair and general building maintenance. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to locate and repair defects in mechanical equipment. Strength and dexterity to lift, stoop, bend, work in uncomfortable positions, ladders, scaffolds, roofs.
Awareness of hazards such as live low-voltage electricity, paint fumes, poorly lit and ventilated areas, requiring protective clothing or equipment.
Salary range based upon 25/26 pay plan. Newly hired employees with previous experience in their field may receive salary credit for up to five years of experience related to the job being filled.
