Lead Gymnastics Instructor

The Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking an enthusiastic gymnastics professional to serve as a Lead Gymnastics Instructor
. This is an exciting and fulfilling role within the Recreation Class program. The position will be responsible for a leadership role within our Recreational Gymnastics program and will support and collaborate with the Recreational Gymnastics Manager.
The Lead Gymnastics instructor serves Arlington County’s community and surrounding areas by offering safe, fun, and quality gymnastics classes for all. The Arlington County Gymnastics program has something for everyone, providing over 250 classes annually and supporting two competitive teams: the Arlington Aerials women’s competitive team and the Arlington Tigers men’s competitive team. The program is housed in the Barcroft Sports and Fitness Center, a 30,000 sf.
facility that includes over 20,000 sf. of gymnastics.
- Lead and manage the Recreational Gymnastics program by directing coaching staff, providing customer service, and maintaining daily schedules.
- Coach classes, camps, and special events; maintain the program curriculum; create stations/rotations; and provide excellent customer service.
- Provide tailored gymnastics instruction to students’ needs while evaluating student performance.
- Instruct all levels of the program’s recreation classes spanning from preschool, youth, teen, adult, and adapted levels.
- Set up equipment prior to class and secure equipment after class.
- Inspect equipment and report unsafe equipment to supervisor.
- Recommend purchase of supplies and equipment.
- Complete required class documentation such as attendance reports, skill tracking, evaluations, incident reports, and other records, using Microsoft Office.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience communicating with large and diverse groups, staying organized, managing priorities, being flexible, and motivating others. Candidates must exercise mature judgment and sound decision-making, and have basic computer skills, Microsoft Office products, and digital information management skills.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or GED.
- 1,200 hours of technical experience in gymnastics (may come from work, volunteer, or formal athletic participation).
- At least 100 hours as an instructor.
- Bachelor’s Degree (or above) in a related field.
- Previous gymnastics and/or summer camp experience.
- Experience working in a USA Gymnastics Member club setting.
- Experience working with/spotting children, teens, adults, and lifting gymnastics/heavy equipment.
A pre‑hire background check will be conducted on all selected candidates, which may include criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. Candidates may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain background information.
Within 60 days of hire, candidates must obtain or maintain:
- USA Gymnastics Membership.
- USA Gymnastics Certification.
- CPR/AED certification.
- Safe Sport certification.
Schedule varies based on facility events at Barcroft Sports & Fitness Center. Must be available to work varying shifts, which may include evenings and weekends (i.e., Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 9:00 pm, and Saturday – Sunday, 8:00 am – 8:00 pm).
