Ashton Recruitment is delighted to be recruiting on behalf of our public sector client for an Administration Assistant to join their busy Environmental Services team. Administration Assistant

Temporary contract until 30 September 2026, may be extended Pay Rate:
Scale 4, £14.12 per hour

Monday - Friday, 37 hours per week This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced administrator who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, providing first-class customer service and supporting the day-to-day operation of a busy Environmental Services department.
The Role As an Administration Assistant, you will provide comprehensive administrative support to the Environmental Services team while acting as a key point of contact for colleagues, contractors and members of the public. You will play an important role in supporting waste management operations, maintaining accurate records and ensuring customer enquiries are dealt with efficiently.
Key Responsibilities Provide day-to-day administrative support including reports, correspondence, typing, filing and document preparation. Act as the first point of contact for telephone, email and visitor enquiries. Manage and maintain departmental databases and records, ensuring information is accurate and up to date. Process and monitor work requests, ensuring they are allocated and followed through to completion. Handle customer enquiries relating to waste collections, recycling services, bulky collections and other Environmental Services activities.
Log and manage customer complaints in line with departmental procedures. Process employee timesheets and maintain accurate administrative records. Receipt payments and reconcile income for bins, bin bags and other council services. Assist with operational administration including vehicle documentation, festive lighting requests and crowd control barrier bookings. Support the preparation of service advertisements and departmental documentation. Liaise with internal departments, contractors and members of the public to ensure an efficient and responsive service.
What We're Looking For The successful candidate will have: A minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Mathematics. At least 1 year's administration experience in a busy office environment. Previous customer service experience dealing with members of the public. Strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills. Excellent organisational and communication skills. The ability to prioritise a varied workload and work using your own initiative.
A professional approach when handling confidential information. Desirable:
Experience processing accounts, invoices or financial records. Previous experience within a public sector or customer service environment.
