This is a senior leadership opportunity within a rapidly growing business delivering complex engineering, offsite manufacturing, data centre and decarbonisation projects across the UK and Europe.
Reporting to the Head of HSE, you will take ownership of environmental strategy and performance across the organisation, ensuring regulatory compliance while driving sustainability, carbon reduction and continual your new role:
Lead the development and delivery of the organisation's environmental strategy across multiple operations and projects
Develop, maintain and continually improve the Environmental Management System in line with ISO 14001
Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, regulatory requirements, permits and other compliance obligations across multiple jurisdictions
Maintain and develop environmental aspects and impacts registers, compliance registers and supporting environmental documentation
Lead environmental audits, inspections and regulatory compliance programmes across complex operational environments
Provide expert guidance on waste management, pollution prevention, resource efficiency, biodiversity and environmental risk Develop and lead sustainability and carbon-reduction initiatives, supporting wider Net Zero objectives
Monitor environmental performance and analyse data to identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement
Lead environmental improvement programmes and ensure measurable progress against environmental objectives and KPIsSupport the development of ESG, carbon and sustainability reporting across the organisation
Work closely with project delivery teams and clients to ensure environmental requirements are embedded throughout project delivery
Provide environmental leadership, coaching and technical guidance to teams across the business
Engage with senior leadership and key stakeholders, presenting environmental performance, risks and strategic recommendations
Manage environmental resources, budgets and improvement programmes to support continued business growth
What you'll need to succeed:
Degree-level qualification in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Sustainability or a related discipline
Significant experience within environmental management at senior or leadership level
Extensive knowledge of environmental legislation and regulatory compliance requirements
Proven experience developing, implementing and continually improving an ISO 14001 certified Environmental Management System Strong experience managing environmental compliance programmes, audits, inspections and permitting across multiple sites or complex operations
Strong understanding of sustainability, carbon reduction, climate-related risks and environmental performance management
Proven leadership experience, including coaching and developing environmental professionals
Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex environmental information and translate findings into practical actions
Strong communication and influencing skills, with experience engaging senior and executive-level stakeholders
Experience managing environmental budgets, resources and improvement programmes
Desirable (it would be great if you have this, but don't worry if you don't):
Chartered status, Fellowship or advanced membership of a recognised environmental professional body Experience developing and delivering Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas reduction initiatives
Experience supporting organisational Net Zero strategies and carbon-reduction targets
Knowledge of ESG frameworks, climate-related disclosures and sustainability reporting requirements
Experience developing sustainable procurement or supply-chain sustainability programmes
Experience preparing and presenting environmental, ESG or sustainability performance reports to Executive or Board-level stakeholders
Previous environmental experience within engineering, construction, manufacturing, building services, data centres or major infrastructure projects
