Position: SHSCT _ Occupational Therapist (7)

Using a Positive Behaviour Support Framework with a range of evidence-based practices, the CARS Service provide a psychology-led assessment to identify service user needs, resulting in the implementation of individualised support to reduce the frequency and intensity of presenting behaviours of concern and to develop adaptive behaviour patterns. The CARS service will provide therapeutic support for service users, their families/ carers and staff.

The post holder will be required to deliver a service in line with Band 7 responsibilities including specialist assessments e.g. Sensory Integration assessments to adults with a Learning Disability who present with a range of complex presentations including mental ill health, behaviours that challenge. The post holder will provide autonomous assessment, formulation and targeted interventions to service users and their carers in a range of settings including their own home, respite, day care, residential care and supported living.

The service promotes a positive behaviour support model and implements a range of evidence-based approaches. The post holder will be part of the CARS service across the Southern Trust area.

Responsibilities
  • The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, treatment, management and delivery of the Occupational Therapy service to adults with a learning disability who present with a range of complex presentations.
  • This will include behaviours that challenge and mental ill health which require intensive support to manage presentations.
  • Work across a range of settings and teams including service users, families/carers/community learning disability teams and other support services e.g. supported living/inpatient services and community and voluntary sectors.
Skills and Qualifications
  • A minimum of five years post qualifying experience, at least 3 years of which must be at Clinical Specialist Band 6, working with adults/children with a range of conditions and needs.
  • BSc (Hons) or Dip COT in Occupational Therapy.
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Evidence of relevant postgraduate training/education to master’s level or equivalent (including Sensory Integration Training), or a willingness to complete within 12-18 months.
  • Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment.
  • This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.
  • Knowledge of the current evidence-based Occupational Therapy practice in Learning and Physical Disability services.
