Strawberry Operative

As a Strawberry Operative at O'Malley Berry Co you will be responsible for producing and handling premium quality strawberries from planting through to harvesting and packing. The role focuses on maintaining the highest standards of fruit quality to meet the expectations of our customers.

• Clearing, cleaning, and preparing troughs, and planting in glasshouses and polytunnels.
• Pruning and weeding.
• Hand-pick ripe strawberries by cutting the stem cleanly and placing fruit directly into punnets in trays, ensuring no damage occurs.
• Pack premium strawberries into trays carefully, ensuring fruit is neatly arranged and protected for transport.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety in fields, glasshouses, and polytunnels by removing debris and keeping walkways clear.
• General Farm Support.
• Growing System & Irrigation maintenance.
• Erection, maintenance, and skinning polytunnels.
• Tucking leaves.
• Pest identification and biological control.
• Grade fruit and pick to the correct punnet weight.
• When supporting the packing team, regularly inspect fruit quality.
• Clean and sanitise tools, machinery, and workstations.
• Operate farm equipment.

• Ability to handle delicate fruit carefully without causing damage.
• Please note the role includes physically demanding work, including bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 20 kg.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Understanding and adherence to farm health and safety procedures, including PPE and safe lifting techniques.
• Previous experience in fruit picking, horticulture, or strawberry production.
• Ability to operate tractors or farm machinery.
