PhD in flow battery research

Job Overview

Elestor offers a PhD in flow battery research in collaboration with TU/e. The position is based in Arnhem and full-time (40 hours).

• Investigate and formulate production techniques for porous electrodes to improve power density and energy efficiency of hydrogen‑iron flow batteries.
• Study the influence of composition, morphology, and properties on performance and durability of electrodes.
• Investigate mass‑transport‑surface‑area trade‑off to enhance performance.
• Develop techniques for electrode production and modifications, including coatings, catalysts, and treatments.
• Participate in interdisciplinary research, attend conferences, and disseminate results through publications, patents, and presentations.

• Master’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or related discipline.
• Experience and interest in laboratory work, familiarity with electrochemistry, surface chemistry, and analytical techniques.
• Knowledge of fuel cell, electrolyzer, and/or flow battery systems.
• Self‑motivated, well‑structured working style, and ability to contribute effectively to the team.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
• Entrepreneurial mindset and desire to bridge academic research and industrial implementation.
• Motivation to learn, thrive in a positive, agile, and proactive culture.
• Following Marie‑Curie rules, bachelor and PhD not required; residence in The Netherlands under 12 months.
