Job Duties and Responsibilities Function

Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) is committed to meeting community needs through excellence in teaching, learning, and public service. Guided by principles of equity, innovation, and student success, the College seeks a faculty member to support the Homeland Security and Criminal Justice Institute (HSCJI) in a dual teaching and coordination capacity. The role integrates teaching, program administration, laboratory oversight, and community engagement to prepare students for careers in public safety, law enforcement, and forensics.

Faculty work of 30 faculty load hours per academic year includes teaching (day and evening – including face‑to‑face, online or hybrid instruction and instruction at off‑site locations, including local high schools and AACC satellite campuses at Arundel Mills and Glen Burnie), program coordination, institutional service, advising, and professional development. Six office hours per week during the fall and spring terms may include student advising and mentoring.

Police

Academy Coordination
  • Serve as Coordinator of the Police Academy Program, a Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions (MPCTC)–approved academy, and Commander of the Police Academy Recruits.
  • Ensure program compliance and accreditation in accordance with MPCTC regulations and AACC academic standards.
  • Manage academy curriculum, instructional materials, and training documentation to ensure program certification and readiness for state audits.
  • Support part‑time faculty, review lesson plans, and conduct instructor evaluations to maintain instructional excellence.
  • Oversee recruit scheduling, course delivery, and program logistics in collaboration with law enforcement partners.
  • Manage MPCTC documentation, reporting, and inspection readiness.
  • Provide advising and mentorship to academy recruits and pre‑service students.
  • Maintain agency partnerships with law enforcement and correctional entities, including Anne Arundel County Police Department, Annapolis Police Department, and MPCTC, among others.
  • Represent AACC at MPCTC meetings, public safety consortiums, and other external forums.
Forensics Laboratory Instruction and Oversight
  • Instruct Forensics, Criminalistics, and laboratory‑based Criminal Justice courses.
  • Oversee daily operations of the Forensics Laboratory, and instructional use, including equipment maintenance, calibration, safety protocols, and inventory management.
  • Maintain chain‑of‑custody procedures and enforce lab safety standards for students, adjuncts, and staff.
  • Provide training and support to faculty and staff using the laboratory.
Teaching:
Criminal Justice (CJS)
  • Teach introductory through advanced CJS, including the Police Academy.
  • Develop and deliver engaging, student‑centered instruction across in‑person, hybrid, and online formats.
  • Develop, review, and assess curriculum to ensure alignment with course outcomes, MPCTC requirements, and institutional learning goals.
