This tenure-track position requires regular on-campus presence, with flexible teaching schedules available.
Contract Dates:
August 16, 2026 - June 15, 2027. Teaching Formats:
Day, evening, weekend, in person, hybrid, and online.
The ideal candidate is committed to the ideals of community college education and has a proven ability to teach college level Sociology and African American Studies courses. Excellence in oral, written, and communication skills is required.
The required teaching load will be 15 FLH per semester, primarily to include face-to-face and online courses in Sociology, African American Studies, and African American History at our main campus in Arnold, Maryland. The faculty member will be expected to teach a minimum of 15 FLH in Introduction to Sociology in an academic year.
This interdisciplinary role combines teaching and leadership in Sociology and African American Studies. We seek a dynamic educator with a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and student-centered teaching as well as to advancing student success through culturally responsive pedagogy and interdisciplinary scholarship.
In addition to teaching responsibilities, the faculty member will participate in curriculum development, assessment strategies, outcomes measurement, department and college committees, special events, transfer pathways development, community partnerships as well as academic advising, ongoing professional development and meeting with students during regular office hours. Rank and salary are dependent on experience and credentials.
Required Qualifications- Master’s degree in Sociology, African American Studies, or a closely related field.
- Advanced academic preparation:
- A master's program with a dual or interdisciplinary focus encompassing both Sociology and African American Studies; or
- A master's program in Sociology plus documented graduate coursework, certificate, or research specialization in African American Studies.
- Demonstrated teaching experience in Sociology and African American Studies or African American History.
- Graduate-level social science research methodology.
- Thematic or area specialization in African American thought, culture, or history.
- Doctoral degree in Sociology, African American Studies or a closely related field.
- Advanced academic preparation:
- A doctoral program with a dual or interdisciplinary focus encompassing both Sociology and African American Studies; or
- A doctoral program in Sociology plus documented graduate coursework, certificate, or research specialization in African American Studies.
- Experience developing academic transfer pathways and articulation agreements.
- Record of successful collaboration across academic services and departments.
- Two years of full-time equivalency of teaching experience at an institution of higher education.
- Demonstrated teaching experience in both African American Studies and African American History.
