Position SummaryThe Assistant Athletic Trainer Temp is responsible for working in cooperation with the Head Athletic Trainer and health professionals in all aspects of examination, treatment and care of injured athletes in compliance with all federal and national laws and regulations. To accomplish this objective, the Assistant Athletic Trainer Temp is expected to attend all athletic practices and contests, including those held in the evening, on weekends and during college‑closed periods.
The position is a temporary position but may exceed a 40 hour work schedule including nights, weekends and college‑closed periods.
Job Duties and Responsibilities- At the direction of the Head Athletic Trainer, utilize available modalities to administer prescribed treatment for injury rehabilitation of student athletes.
- Provide first response care for student‑athletes during practice or game situations.
- Review and be able to implement Emergency Action Plan when necessary by informing appropriate personnel.
- Assist the Head Athletic Trainer with the training and testing of student‑athletes using ImPACT Concussion software to measure baseline testing.
- Attend home games and practices for all varsity teams throughout the year, including those scheduled during college‑closed period, as directed by the Head Athletic Trainer.
- Attend MD JUCO Athletic Training meetings as needed or in the absence of the Head Athletic Trainer to ensure all conference and national policies are followed and updated within AACC.
- Be available during posted hours of operation for the training room.
- Assist Head Athletic Trainer with inventory maintenance and organization of training room equipment and supplies.
- Assist with preparation of requisitions for equipment and supplies as needed.
- Assist Head Athletic Trainer with all policies and procedures regarding COVID‑19 mitigation strategies, daily screening and intake, and compliance with all institutional, local, state and national laws.
- Assist Head Athletic Trainer in removal and/or suspension from practice for student‑athletes, coaches or programs.
- Assist with communication, reporting and documentation of suspecting and/or confirmed COVID‑19 cases.
- Assist in the NJCAA physical examination requirement by ensuring proper use of forms by student‑athletes.
- Review all health histories and medical documentation for each student‑athlete.
- Enforce revocation of privileges by Head Athletic Trainer for any student‑athlete not currently in compliance.
- Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in ensuring compliance with the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) policies, procedures and practices.
- Assist Head Athletic Trainer in developing and implementing conditioning and injury prevention activities; monitor athletes’ progress.
- Maintain current NATA Certification and any other required professional development activities.
- Maintain Maryland State licensure.
- BLS, First‑Aid, CPR and AED certified.
- Six months to two years of relevant experience required.
- Bachelors degree.
- General understanding of the roles and responsibilities of athletic training.
- Ability to work independently with attention to details and deadlines.
- Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with students, faculty, staff, the medical community and the public.
- Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of the program, including nights, weekends and college‑closure periods.
- Demonstrated experience as a first responder in athletic environment.
- Demonstrated success in prevention and care of athletic injuries and illnesses.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
