Job Summary
Teach classroom and behind‑the‑wheel training for school bus drivers. Under supervision operate a school bus transporting pupils to and from school and school activities.

Bus Driver Trainer - Site:
Transportation - Work Days: 260 days per year (12 months per year)
- Schedule:
Monday – Friday, 8 hours/day, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. - Salary: $4,147 – $5,299 monthly (classified placement based on start date and prior experience)

- High school graduation or equivalent.
- Five years or more as a California school bus driver.
- Knowledge of the operation of a school bus, California Vehicle Code, regulations and laws pertaining to pupil transportation in California, first‑aid practices.
- Ability to act calmly and sensibly in stressful situations; react appropriately in emergencies; carry out oral and written instructions; maintain cooperative relations; use good judgement; teach effectively; operate all school bus‑related equipment.
- Appropriate State licenses and certificates, including DL‑51 Medical Certificate, and a valid California certificate of completion for the School Bus Driver Instructor course.
- Teach state‑required classroom course.
- Monitor and maintain driver records and make appropriate notifications.
- Teach behind‑the‑wheel training.
- Assist Transportation Supervisor with bus evacuation drills and bus loading/unloading difficulties.
- Perform behind‑the‑wheel checkout for school bus drivers.
- Operate a school passenger bus.
- Maintain discipline on bus.
- Submit daily and other reports as required.
- Check and service water, oil, and gasoline or diesel levels.
- Maintain interior cleanliness of assigned bus.
- Keep vehicle maintenance department informed of mechanical problems that might affect operation of bus.
- Update route sheets for assigned routes.
- Perform bus evacuations.
- May originate and present programs requested by Transportation Supervisor for safety or in‑service meetings.
- May assist with dispatch duties as required.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
- Ability to ascend and descend steps.
- Ability to see and read, with or without vision aids.
- Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
- Ability to communicate so others will clearly understand normal conversation.
- Ability to bend and twist, kneel and stoop.
- Ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull up to 40 pounds on a regular basis.
- In an emergency, must be able to perform evacuation of students from bus.
- Ability to reach in all directions.
