Project Manager, Environmental Engineer, Mechanical Engineer

Basic Function

HF Sinclair in Artesia, NM is seeking a Project Manager. This positon is under close and frequent supervision, conducts engineering assignments for the Capital Projects Department.

• Coordinates and carries out assigned assignments with other departments as applicable
• Uses common engineering concepts in a particular field to perform projects, and assignments for the engineering department with direct supervision and exercises judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria
• Estimates the cost and feasibility of a given project, supervises contractors and field activities and provides discipline specific engineering assistance, direction and development assistance to colleagues depending on assignment
• Resolves a variety of complex problems, (i.e. conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, difficult coordination requirements), and solves technical problems related to projects, troubleshoots and updates report data for business unit(s) depending on assignment
• Performs engineering calculations (i.e. mass balances, energy balances, and conversion calculations)
• Generate and/or modify P & ’s
• Survey construction areas to plan equipment and piping layout
• Produce and issue civil, structural and piping drawings for construction
• Hire and supervise contractors throughout the construction phase, as needed
• Perform sketches, technical comparisons and similar technical work as required by assignment
• Review plans and prepare or review technical specifications, contract documents and estimates
• Work on design/engineer projects
• Procure equipment/material
• Track schedule and costs
• Upgrade, design, configure, maintain and monitor related equipment and performance
• Analyze related components and systems, processes and methods, and refinery processes and economics
• Develop project scopes, budgets and AFEs for approval and ensure projects meet budget as well as refinery and OSHA standards
• Optimize business unit(s) and analyze data to aid operations with decisions, ensuring maintenance and integrity of business unit(s) data
• Review outside vendors proposals regarding purchase of new, or modernization of existing, processing equipment
• Improve profitability of the refinery
• Design and build plant additions and modifications

A minimum of a Bachelor s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Chemical discipline as required by assignment) is required.

PREFERRED EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:

Ability to take the Fundamentals of Engineering exam within six months of hire preferred. FCC, CCR, Alky, and Sulfur unit experience is preferred for Chemical discipline depending on assignment.

Basic knowledge of commonly used engineering concepts and ability to apply this knowledge analytically. Basic ability to stay abreast of new technology developments and processes is essential. Advanced reading and writing skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate effectively with others. Ability to perform advanced mathematical calculations.

PREFERRED

SKILLS:

Basic knowledge of Microsoft products and experience with engineering software is preferred.

Office and Petroleum Refinery/Industrial environment based with up to 10% travel required by land or air. Subject to varying road and weather conditions and required to work in all temperatures including out-of-doors. Required to work in a warehouse/plant environment and out of doors. Works near moving mechanical parts and/or rotating equipment.
