Description
Job Summary: Under the direction and supervision of a physician, and using Standardized Procedures, the CSTFA provides high-quality, cost-effective patient care by performing surgical preparation procedures, perioperative and post-operative procedures, and assists in performing surgical and other procedures.

- Performs housekeeping duties as necessary.
- Utilize sterile technique while setting up and assisting physician.
- Assist in direct patient care when necessary.
- Functions as a surgical scrub technologist when requested.
- Participate in call schedule.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Ability to help develop appropriate protocols and keep protocols up to date.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain a working relationship with patients, physicians and other team members.
- Exhibits a professional manner with a high degree of courtesy, tact and poise when interacting with physicians, anesthesia providers, employees, patients and visitors.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/ABILITIES- Basic Qualifications:
- Knowledge and competency in OR technology and central service.
- The CSTFA practices perioperative nursing and must have acquired the necessary specific knowledge, skills and judgment.
- The CSTFA under the supervision of the surgeon during the intraoperative phase of the perioperative experience.
- In order to perform those functions considered to be first assistant to the surgeon, the CSTFA must adhere to standardized procedures.
- One-year CSTFA experience strongly preferred.
- Must meet CSTFA requirements.
Demonstrates the basic knowledge and skills necessary to identify age-specific patient needs appropriate for this position.
Information ManagementTreats all information and data within the scope of the position with appropriate confidentiality and security.
Risk Management/Quality Management/SafetyCooperates fully in all Risk Management, Quality Management, and Safety Activities and Investigations.
MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS- Education: Must meet CSTFA First Assist requirements.
- Work Experience: One-year CSTFA experience strongly preferred.
- Training: Current CSTFA Certificate required,
- License/Certification: BLS certification required.
Work environment consists of daily patient contact, which may include exposure to blood, or other body fluids.
