Job Summary: Under the direction of an RN/LPN or practitioner, perform basic patient care activities.

Description: Under the direction of an RN/LPN or practitioner, perform basic patient care activities.

Essential Functions
  • Assist and work one‑on‑one with multiple physicians and mid‑level providers in two locations:
    Artesia and Carlsbad.
  • Must be able to travel and work in Artesia and Carlsbad.
  • Must be willing to assist in training new employees.
  • Escort patients from the lobby to the exam room or the treatment room as appropriate.
  • Obtain all necessary patient records as required by the physician.
  • Record patient data before each physician visit, including new problems, symptoms, or follow‑up.
  • Conduct patients’ assessments and obtain pertinent medical information.
  • Assist physicians with exams and procedures as required (e.g., set‑up injections, removal of sutures, staples, casting, bracing).
  • Prepare and stock exam room, order supplies as needed.
  • Maintain all exam room disinfection protocols.
  • Telephoned prescriptions and make other patient calls as required or directed by physicians.
  • Schedule patient tests, procedures, surgeries, and hospital admissions, and provide any follow‑up as needed.
  • Ensure all paperwork is complete and signed by the physician for reauthorizations and pre‑certifications as needed.
  • Obtain new patient records and previous test results (X‑rays, etc.).
  • Follow up on patient rescheduling with a physician.
  • Perform appropriate procedures in the cast room – placement and removal of casts, splints, and dressing according to protocol.
  • Review and ensure superbill accuracy, completeness, and physician signature.
  • Complete worker’s compensation questionnaires, disability forms, etc.
  • Assist with front desk phone and filing of medical records as needed.
  • Accept temporary assignments allocated by the Office Manager.
  • Maintain a clean work environment; restock supplies as needed.
  • Demonstrate understanding of patient confidentiality (HIPAA) to protect the patient and clinic.
  • Follow policies and procedures to contribute to the efficiency of the front office and cover front office functions as requested.
  • Demonstrate positive interpersonal relations with fellow employees, supervisors, managers, other department employees, and physicians to maximize productivity and positive employee relations.
  • Ensure all medical records are scanned into the EMR.
  • Ensure cleanliness of office and examination rooms.
  • Clean and store equipment (instrument sterilization).
  • Maintain supply inventory and restock as required.
  • Perform basic clerical duties as needed.

  • Knowledge of basic nursing and patient care.

Minimum Position Qualifications
  • Education – High school diploma or equivalent; plus specialized, short‑term training in basic patient care.
  • Work Experience – Clinic setting preferred.
  • Training – Formal nursing assistant and/or medical assistant training is required.
  • License / Certification – Certification in Nurse Assisting or Certification in Medical Assisting preferred.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

The work environment consists of daily patient contact, which may include exposure to blood or other body fluids.
