The City of Arvada is seeking a seasoned Senior Network Engineer to ensure the stability, security, and performance of our network infrastructure. This role provides senior-level design, configuration, and troubleshooting expertise while strengthening our security posture and reducing operational risk.

Essential Job Functions- Administers and configures network devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, and access points.
- Implements and maintains network policies, protocols, and procedures to ensure efficient and secure network operations.
- Monitors network performance, availability, and security using monitoring tools and techniques. Identifies and resolves issues promptly to minimize downtime and optimize network performance.
- Serves as a primary point of contact for troubleshooting network-related issues, providing technical expertise and support to resolve complex problems effectively. Collaborates with vendors and internal teams to address issues and implement solutions.
- Implements and maintains network security measures to protect against unauthorized access, data breaches, and cyber threats. Configures and manages firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, VPNs, and other security technologies.
- Collaborates with architect to design and implement network infrastructure solutions that meet business requirements and support future growth.
- Evaluates new technologies and make recommendations for network improvements and enhancements.
- Develops and maintains comprehensive network documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, and procedures. Provides training and knowledge transfer to junior administrators to enhance team capabilities.
- Conducts capacity planning exercises to anticipate future network requirements and ensure scalability and performance. Implement optimization strategies to maximize network efficiency and resource utilization.
- Occasional on-call support is required after hours.
- Required after-hours implementation and maintenance as needed to ensure department technology uptime.
- May attend off-site meetings, seminars, conferences, or events related to work.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong understanding of networking concepts such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP), and subnetting.
- Knowledge of network devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, access points, and network appliances.
- Familiarity with server operating systems (e.g., Windows Server, Linux) and desktop operating systems (e.g., Windows, macOS).
- Understanding of network security principles, including encryption, authentication, access controls, firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and security best practices.
- Knowledge of virtualization platforms such as VMware vSphere, Microsoft, and containerization technologies.
- Understanding storage technologies, including SAN, NAS, RAID configurations, and backup/recovery solutions.
- Familiarity with cloud computing concepts and platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform), including cloud networking, storage, and security.
- Knowledge of IAM concepts, directory services (e.g., Active Directory, LDAP), user authentication methods, and access control mechanisms.
- Proficiency in network monitoring and management tools.
- Awareness of relevant regulatory requirements.
- Ability to administer and configure network devices, troubleshoot network issues, and optimize network performance.
- Skills in server administration, including installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of server hardware and operating systems.
- Knowledge of PII, HIPAA, PCI and CJIS Compliance.
- Knowledge if ITIL.
- CompTIA Network, CompTIA Security.
- A valid Colorado driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Bachelors Degree (BA, BS, BBA)
- Information Systems, Technology or related field.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Five (5) years experience in the network field, LAN/WAN Connectivity.
