Levi Angmak Iliiarnarfik serves approximately 400 students in a K‑5 setting with a staff of 40. The school and community are steeped in Inuit culture.

Required Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
  • Valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligible for certification in Nunavut
  • International‑educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have credentials evaluated through Pathways to Teach Canada
Desired Qualifications

Applicants are not required to meet every qualification; relevant experience and commitment to community‑centred education are valued.

Language and Cultural Assets
  • Ability to communicate in Inuktitut (verbal and written)
  • Experience supporting Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit‑based education
  • Experience teaching in a bilingual or ESL environment
  • Experience teaching in cross‑cultural or northern‑Canada contexts
Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
  • Experience in differentiated instruction and inclusive practices
  • Training or experience in evidence‑based literacy development
  • Training or experience using current assessment methods to guide learning
  • Experience creating a positive learning environment using classroom management practices and approaches (e.g., restitution, tribes, positives, effective behavior supports)
Relationships & Student Engagement
  • Experience building respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and stakeholders
  • Experience fostering student wellbeing and engagement
  • Experience engaging with students beyond the classroom, as appropriate
Collaboration & Professional Practice
  • Experience planning instruction and student supports through collaborative approaches
  • Experience working collaboratively as part of a school team
  • Experience learning and contributing in a shared, community‑focused environment
Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary Range: $93,906 – $147,243 (based on experience)
  • Nunavut Northern Allowance for Arviat, Nunavut: $21,113
  • Subsidized housing: not available
Conditions of Employment
  • Applicants currently employed by the Government of Nunavut must hold a valid Nunavut teaching certificate
  • Applicants from outside Nunavut must provide a copy of a current public‑school teaching certificate from a Canadian jurisdiction recognized by the Department of Education
  • Applications lacking this documentation will not be considered
Mandatory Documentation

Successful candidates must provide a Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) dated no more than six months prior to the start date.
