Critical Facilities Engineer Trainee - Ashburn, VA

Job SummaryLeverage your military experience in a civilian role focused on facility and infrastructure maintenance, preventive/ corrective support, and operations across data center environments.
Responsibilities- Perform moderately difficult preventive and corrective maintenance on facility components.
- Conduct site inspections and monitor building & data center alarms.
- Repair, maintain, install, and inspect facility systems, supporting energy‑efficiency measures.
- Monitor Building Monitoring System (BMS) and resolve alarm issues following procedures.
- Operate and maintain plumbing, fire suppression, and safety systems.
- Operate critical infrastructures under supervision of senior technical staff.
- Prioritize and manage service requests, maintain records and audit reports.
- Rack & stack equipment, perform fiber terminations, cable management, and cross‑connect work.
- Identify single points of failure, make recommendations, and respond to on‑site incidents.
- Collaborate with team members and stakeholders, provide inventory updates, and support project initiatives.
- High School / GED required; technical associate degree or military‑technical school acceptable.
- Experience (1‑4 years) in mechanical engineering, electronics, HVAC, electrician, or HVAC design.
- Knowledge of critical infrastructure: UPS, generators, BMS, chillers, life‑safety systems.
- Familiarity with HVAC testing, balancing, thermodynamics, and IT hardware operations.
- Physical ability to lift 50 lbs and work in data‑center environments.
- Strong communication, teamwork, initiative, time‑management, and problem‑solving skills.
- Must meet all eligibility requirements for the DoD Skillbridge Program (DOE 1322.29, NAVADMIN 222/15).
- Currently within 180‑day separation window from active duty or a military spouse seeking a technology career.
