The Role Entails
The Electrical Design Engineer will lead the design and delivery of reliable, efficient, and sustainable electrical systems for Cloud
HQ data centers across the North America and LATAM. Working across the full project lifecycle — from master planning and concept design through construction, commissioning, and operational handover — this role is critical to ensuring our facilities meet our and our customers’ standards of performance, resilience, and efficiency.
You will partner closely with our customers, our architects, engineers, contractors, and Cloud
HQ’s Preconstruction, Construction, and Operations teams to deliver solutions that reflect our commitment to customer success, reliability, and technical excellence. This position offers the opportunity to directly influence data center design standards worldwide and help Cloud
HQ remain at the forefront of mission‑critical infrastructure delivery.
- Lead (and be the single point of accountability for) the concept design of electrical systems with a focus on reliability, efficiency, and sustainability.
- Manage third‑party consultant teams in developing detailed designs, ensuring continuous improvement to Cloud
HQ’s standard solutions. - Oversee design deliverables, project specifications, schedules, and task allocations to ensure high‑quality, timely output.
- Support campus planning, entitlements, design, and permitting processes from site acquisition through construction document delivery on multiple, simultaneous projects
- Collaborate closely with customers to integrate their technical requirements into Cloud
HQ data center designs. - Partner with Preconstruction and Construction teams in bid reviews, contract awards, and construction oversight to ensure work meets specifications and offers best value.
- Liaise with global design colleagues to share best practices and ensure consistency of standards across all Cloud
HQ developments. - Coordinate with the Operations team to ensure designs align with operational best practices and lifecycle cost efficiency. Gather performance feedback from active sites and incorporate insights into updated design standards.
- Research emerging electrical and controls technologies, identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Contribute to Cloud
HQ’s global design standards, ensuring consistency across regions while adapting to local climate, regulatory, and operational requirements. - Develop creative solutions and innovations to drive individual and team performance
- Identify and share lessons learned and integrate improvements into future projects
- Champion CHQ initiatives on all projects
Location:
Site-based in Ashburn, VA
Travel:
Ability to travel to data center sites, client meetings, trainings or conferences as requested and required.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.
- 5+ years’ experience designing electrical systems for data centers or mission‑critical facilities, including at least two years in a lead design role.
- Proven ability to manage external design consultants and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Deep knowledge of electrical systems in mission critical environments.
- Strong problem‑solving skills with expertise in quantitative and qualitative analysis, and technical oversight.
