This role is ideal for a smart, sharp, and driven engineer with a strong grasp of concept-level design, schematics, and construction drawings. The ideal candidate will be proficient in AutoCAD and Revit, with experience in Mechanical systems design for mission-critical environments.
As a subject matter expert, you will have a direct impact on the design of prototypical Data Center sites, provide technical design guidance and vendor oversight, solve large-scale implementation issues, and build a strong understanding of site design and program requirements.
The successful candidate will develop and implement design strategies to expand the firm’s expertise, footprint and profitability in Critical Facilities and Digital Infrastructure. Our client is looking for a Critical Facilities Engineer that has expertise in Mechanical / Cooling Systems Engineering and Design for data center and infrastructure development efforts, specifically for large data centers. This challenging and unique role will involve the initial design specifications and prototype of mechanical / HVAC / Cooling systems for new data centers and expansions to existing data centers.
The ideal candidate will have experience and in-depth knowledge of Mechanical / HVAC / Cooling Systems/ Controls System design and installation. Knowledge of heating and cooling load calculations, ductwork and piping sizing, selecting HVAC equipment, energy modeling, CFD / Computational Fluid Dynamics and other engineering calculations. Previous experience with mechanical equipment design to include: HVAC, Boilers, Chillers, Pumps, CRAC / CRAH Units, Air Handling Units, etc.
You will help lead the design team and working / communicating with all the trades and stakeholders involved in all projects.
Responsibilities:
- Manage projects, create designs and plans, provided and gather specifications, and execute assignments in a multidisciplinary electrical engineering design role for all sizes of data center facility design projects- enterprise data centers, Colocation Providers and for Hyperscale Companies.
- Create Conceptual Designs gathered from meetings with the client
- Create Prototypes that will create the schematics that will be basis for RFPs / RFIs
- Establish project objectives, policies, procedures and performance standards within boundaries of company policies
- Represent the company in project meetings
- Collaborate with all design staff and oversee full cycle electrical design activities
- Interact closely with the Project Management Team to produce construction documents, develop and edit project specifications and lead the construction administration process
- Execute and lead design teams and design projects of complex scope
- Perform intermediate to advanced mechanical design tasks including development of cooling systems and topologies, infrastructure and equipment layouts and selection / sizing of equipment
- Utilize AutoCAD and Revit software to prepare drawings
- Review and / or prepare book or sheet specifications for mechanical systems
- Develop and / or review sequences of operations
- Proposal development including project scope, schedule and budget
- Effective management of project design team including resource forecasting and coordination
