Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineer, Systems Engineer
Overview Energy is a mission-driven team committed to building a new layer of energy infrastructure: satellites in geosynchronous orbit that redirect solar energy to terrestrial solar projects via passively safe near-infrared light. We’re in the earliest phase, where every circuit board and harness that leaves our facility is designed, built, and tested end-to-end by a small, dedicated team. Headquartered in the Northern Virginia / Washington, DC area and backed by world-class investors, we are advancing the next generation of clean energy technology.
Aboutthe Role
We’re hiring an Electrical Engineer to design, build, and test the electronics behind our flight and ground hardware. You’ll report directly to our lead electrical engineer and work daily with our mechanical, embedded software, and systems engineers.
This is a generalist seat. One week you’re capturing a schematic and bringing up a new board on the bench. The next, you’re holding a supplier to its statement of work and checking that what ships matches what we specified.
This is built for someone a few years into their career who has already put real hardware on a bench and wants a far bigger slice of the system than a large prime can offer. The role is onsite daily at our Ashburn Virginia facility.
What You’ll DoDesign and capture schematics for analog, digital, and power boards: sensors, data acquisition, power delivery, and the interfaces between them.
Select components, build BOMs, and see boards through fabrication and assembly.
Bring up new PCBs with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, and bench supplies, then debug and characterize them against requirements.
Support systems engineering on requirements, architecture, and interfaces.
Design and document wire harnesses and interconnects: wire gauge, connectors, pinouts, and interface control documents (ICDs).
Manage electronics suppliers and contractors: review statements of work, track deliverables, and verify what arrives against spec.
Run power budgets and first-pass thermal and EMI checks, applying derating and space-environment practices to every design.
Write test procedures and scripts that automate measurements and data analysis.
Drive hardware anomalies to root cause and close out corrective actions.
Write complete design reports, ICDs, and test procedures, so the next engineer can pick up your work without a meeting.
B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
2–5+ years of hands-on electrical hardware experience. Internships and co-ops count, as does a substantial hardware program such as Cube Sat, Formula SAE, solar car, hybrid/EV, rocketry, or UAV teams.
At least one piece of hardware you designed, built, or tested end-to-end and can walk us through on a whiteboard.
Solid fundamentals in analog and digital circuits, plus enough embedded experience to work with microcontrollers and common communication buses.
Schematic capture experience in Altium, KiCad (preferred), or a similar tool.
Comfort on the bench with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, and power supplies.
Some experience working with an external supplier or contractor, even a single one on a single program.
Ability to work onsite at our Northern Virginia facility.
Hardware that has flown, or a full program cycle in space, aerospace, UAV, or another high-reliability field.
Exposure to environmental testing: vibration, shock, and thermal vacuum.
Familiarity with circuit design in LTspice or related simulation platforms such as SIMetrix/SIMPLIS, PLECS, or Qspice
Power electronics or battery system experience.
Wire harness design and fabrication.
Range across mechanical,…
