Telecoms Engineering, Field/Service Technician
TGS International are recruiting for a skilled Field Technician to support the delivery of high-performance telecommunications infrastructure for a leading telecoms services provider.
About the RoleAs a Field Technician, you will be at the heart of delivering cutting‑edge telecommunications infrastructure that powers global connectivity. This is a hands‑on role supporting both new build deployments and live network environments, working across installation, commissioning, and first‑line maintenance activities for a diverse customer base.
You will work in dynamic field environments where precision, safety, and technical excellence are critical. Your work will directly impact network reliability, service quality, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities- Fibre and cable pulling, dressing, labelling, securing, and termination.
- Fibre cable termination using fusion splicing techniques, including ribbon splicing.
- Installation of metalwork, basket work, and basic rack‑and‑stack services.
- Copper cable termination, including Cat 'x' and E1.
- Continuity testing and test & measurement of fibre and copper runs.
- Fault diagnosis using Ethernet and OSA testing procedures.
- Electrical connectivity of 240V AC and up to 48V DC to distribution panels (no power‑up prior to certification).
- Provide first‑line maintenance support to the existing customer base in line with SLAs.
- Carry out installation and commissioning activities in both project and maintenance environments.
- Respond to fault calls and perform hardware replacement with TAC assistance.
- Participate in an out‑of‑hours on‑call rota as required.
- Complete and submit all documentation and reports within agreed SLAs.
- Maintain Health & Safety and Engineering Quality standards at all times.
- Comply with company and local standards, procedures, protocols, and engineering KPIs.
- Demonstrate flexibility to meet business and operational requirements.
- Undertake additional ad‑hoc duties as required.
- Experience installing and terminating cable management systems such as Commscope, AFL Global, Panduit, Corning, or equivalent.
- Hands‑on experience with test equipment including Fluke, Viavi, EXFO, or equivalent.
- Entry‑level Telecoms Commissioner capable of basic standalone product commissioning ("green light and connectivity").
- Experience building telecoms infrastructure from plans in line with Telcordia quality standards.
- Experience installing and commissioning equipment from vendors such as Ciena, Nokia, Juniper, Cisco, Infinera, or Huawei.
Strong understanding of networking, optical transmission systems, and IP. - Excellent written and spoken English with strong report‑writing capability.
- Proven customer‑facing experience in technical or field‑based environments.
- Ability to work under pressure and influence others positively.
- PC literate, with strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365.
- Strong time‑management skills with the ability to manage workload and meet SLAs.
- Flexible and adaptable approach to work.
- Full, valid US driving license.
