Position: Principal Systems Engineer (Tooling)

Siemens Mobility is dedicated to pioneering the future of transportation. Our dynamic team is always exploring new ways to drive innovation and efficiency in rail. We are searching for forward-thinkers who are eager to challenge themselves and make a tangible impact. If you are passionate about creating sustainable and intelligent transport solutions, we want you on our team.

In our Communication & Information Systems (CIS) business, we deliver Rail Infrastructure systems for customers across the UK and internationally. Our portfolio includes the provision of event driven control and monitoring solutions tailored for Centralised SCADA & Line-wide systems, Stations & Utilities, Power SCADA, Control Systems, Tunnel Ventilation, M&E SCADA, and many more solutions. We undertake the full engineering delivery life cycle across all projects.

We have an exciting opportunity to join Siemens Mobility as a Principal Systems Engineer for our CIS business within Rail Infrastructure. This position will be performing the role of Engineering Dev Ops sat across all Engineering Portfolios within the CIS business. For this role, you will have a base location of either Ashby-de-la-Zouch or Chippenham. In this role, you will provide specialist engineering tooling to support the safe, efficient, reliable, and controlled delivery of software and hardware-based systems within rail and transport environments, subject to safety and integrity (SIL) assurance requirements.

The role focuses on automation, deployment reliability, availability and operational resilience, while also shaping the Engineering Dev Ops tooling roadmap across Portfolios to ensure investment, standardisation and tooling decisions support delivery performance, assurance obligations and long-term business objectives within regulated Engineering Delivery functions.

You’ll make a difference by..
  • Leading the design, implementation, and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines for systems supporting SIL and non-SIL safety-related applications, including gated approvals and auditable controls
  • Implementing “Infrastructure as Code” to ensure deterministic, secure, repeatable environments that support and provide safety evidence and configuration control
  • Ensuring Dev Ops tooling and processes support robust traceability, version control, and auditability aided by a robust change-control triage and deployment process
  • Providing engineering lifecycle evidence to support safety cases, assurance activities, and independent assessment
  • Providing portfolio-level leadership across engineering delivery teams to enable predictable, controlled releases into operational environments and improve consistency of tooling adoption across programmes
  • Driving Engineering Dev Ops maturity through a prioritised roadmap that balances operational need, portfolio risk, assurance requirements and long-term business value
What you’ll need to succeed..
  • Experience in (non-software centric) Dev Ops or systems/tooling engineering roles within rail and transportation, supporting engineering delivery
  • CI/CD tooling with controlled release and approval mechanisms
  • Management of tooling in an IEC 62443 / NIS2 compliant environment
  • Operational Technology in safety-related and safety-critical environments
  • Experience with SCADA, control and automation systems, signalling, and/or operational technology (desirable)
  • Infrastructure as Code and configuration management
