Licensed Practical Nurse-PM at MEDIKO

Job Description

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)/Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) will provide direct patient care in a correctional facility, including administration of medications, monitoring patient conditions, assisting with treatments, and documenting care. This role collaborates with healthcare teams to ensure quality patient care while adhering to facility policies, state regulations, and infection control standards.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct direct patient care, including assessments, monitoring vital signs, and administering prescribed treatments and medications as directed by the physician.
  • Perform initial medical screenings upon entry and provide ongoing care throughout the patient’s stay.
  • Assist with sick call assessments, respond to patient health complaints, and provide appropriate care or referrals.
  • Respond promptly to medical emergencies and provide first aid and emergency care as necessary.
  • Monitor and document patient progress, making recommendations to the physician for treatment modifications when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date patient records in compliance with facility policies, state regulations, and healthcare standards.
  • Ensure all medical treatments, procedures, and interventions comply with federal, state, and local healthcare regulations.
  • Administer medications, document patient reactions, and ensure proper handling and storage of medications according to protocols.
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, healthcare providers, and correctional staff to coordinate patient care effectively.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, staff, and external providers to ensure continuity of care and address concerns.
  • Educate patients and facility staff on basic health and wellness topics, including disease prevention, medication management, and health maintenance.
  • Ensure the medical unit is well‑stocked with necessary supplies and equipment, and that it remains organized and clean.
  • Report any issues with medical equipment or facilities to appropriate personnel to maintain continuous operation.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Current, valid state licensure, certificate, and/or credentials documenting ability to practice as an LPN, LVN, or equivalent.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare, Nursing, or a related field preferred but not required.
  • 1‑3 years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in a correctional healthcare or similar environment.
  • Experience in roles that involve direct patient care or administrative support in a regulated environment is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, policies, and procedures related to correctional settings is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively, adhere to protocols, and deliver high‑quality service in a fast‑paced, structured environment.
  • Active CPR/BLS certificate required (American Heart Association or American Red Cross guideline approved).
