About the RoleThe Christ School Outdoor Program seeks a part-time Mountain Biking Instructor / Trip Leader for the spring season. You’ll collaborate with the head coach to design and lead practices on our extensive campus trail system and nearby networks such as DuPont State Park and Pisgah National Forest. This role emphasizes skill development, safety, and mentorship in an all-boys boarding environment.
Schedule- Weekdays: 3:30–5:30 p.m.
- 1–2 evenings per week (pre-set Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu): 3:30–8:00 p.m. for off-campus rides (varies by weather or school events).
- One weekend camping trip at the end of the season (Friday–Saturday).
- Plan and lead skill sessions and trail rides with the head coach.
- Teach bike handling, safety, and group-riding etiquette.
- Manage logistics and risk during off-campus trips.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with students.
- Communicate clearly with staff, students, and families as appropriate.
- Respond calmly and effectively to emergencies and follow reporting protocols.
- Strong knowledge of mountain biking fundamentals and maneuvers.
- Extensive personal riding experience.
- Clear, professional communication skills.
- Adaptable, motivated, and safety-conscious approach.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license.
- Comfortable driving a short bus with trailer.
- Prior experience teaching or coaching youth.
- WFA or WFR certification.
- Mountain Bike Instructor Certification (PMBI, BICP, or FIT – Level 2/Advanced).
- Salary: $2,000–$3,000 for the season (based on position and experience).
- Meals:
Dinner provided after practice (5:30–7:30 p.m.); all meals on trips covered by the school. - Advancement opportunities within Christ School (faculty or staff positions).
- Two weeks leave for Spring Break.
