HDR is looking for a Water/Wastewater Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) / Designer with a focus in utility planning using hydraulic modeling to join our team of engineers, scientists and project managers to support projects for HDR clients in North Carolina and South Carolina. This position may be based out of our HDR offices in Raleigh, Charlotte, Winston‑Salem or Asheville, North Carolina or Greenville, South Carolina.
Raleigh or Winston‑Salem locations are preferred.
The ideal candidate will have a background involving the delivery of utility infrastructure engineering master planning, design, and hydraulic modeling projects associated with water distribution, sanitary sewer collection, and water reuse systems. Responsibilities include developing and calibrating water and wastewater hydraulic models, performing GIS data analysis, alternatives analysis, preliminary engineering, cost analysis, and capital project development. Other responsibilities also include client interaction in project meetings and presentations, report writing, and developing proposal scopes with level of effort estimates.
This role may include task‑level responsibility for project teams, mentoring and quality assurance/quality control activities for hydraulic modeling and master planning projects.
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification. Candidates without their EIT will have the title of Water/Wastewater Designer and will be expected to obtain their EIT certificate for career progression
- Two or more years of progressive experience in utility hydraulic modeling and infrastructure engineering design
- MS in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related field a plus
- Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, mapping and analysis
- Knowledge and experience with software such as Info Asset Planner, Python, R, Tableau, Power
BI or similar - Task management experience with increasing responsibility
- Knowledge and experience with wastewater collection system and/or water distribution system hydraulic modeling software
- Willing to learn and grow technical and professional skills to meet client and market needs
- Self‑motivated, able to work independently and within a team environment, and possessing excellent organizational and time management skills
- Must have excellent communication skills and thrive working in a team environment
- Experience working for a public, municipal, or investor‑owned water and/or wastewater utility, public works department, or engineering consulting firm is beneficial
