Transportation Technician III

RS&H is seeking an experienced transportation technician to join our team in Asheville, NC.

Overview

This position will work outside on an active construction site. As part of the construction management team, you’ll serve an integral role in the firm by observing the work of contractors to determine the progress and quality of work on construction projects. Your duties include performing highly complex technical assignments in field surveying and construction layout, such as making and checking engineering computations, inspecting construction work, and conducting field tests.

You will also coordinate and manage junior inspectors, review and interpret contract documents to determine compliance, maintain detailed and accurate records of contractor operations and significant events, and perform sampling and field testing of component materials and completed work. Additionally, you may direct, guide, and mentor junior inspectors.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent and seven years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in construction inspection, including exposure to bridge and/or roadway construction inspection, or a degree in civil engineering.
  • Materials sampling/testing certifications.
  • Valid driver’s license, insurable, and ability to safely operate a vehicle on highways and construction sites.
  • Passion for working outside and tolerance for exposure to the elements.
  • Strong organizational, problem‑solving, prioritization, and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively interact with and build relationships with others.
Preferred Qualifications / Certifications
  • OSHA 10‑Hour certification
  • NCDOT certifications and experience
