Mechanical Department Head

Our client, an established, forward‑thinking engineering firm, is seeking a Mechanical Department Lead to take charge of their MEP discipline in the Asheville market. This is a key leadership role for an experienced professional who can drive innovation, ensure technical excellence, and streamline operations within the department.

• Lead and oversee all aspects of the MEP discipline, with a strong focus on mechanical systems.

• Provide technical direction and mentorship to the MEP team.

• Develop and execute strategic plans for departmental growth, improved workflows, and effective communication internally and externally.

• Build and maintain lasting client relationships.

• Apply deep knowledge of HVAC, electrical, fire protection, plumbing, and sustainable design practices.

• Review and coordinate construction documentation across architectural, structural, and MEP systems.

• Prepare detailed construction documents including drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical details.

• Manage projects from concept through completion.

• Leverage design and calculation software to deliver high‑quality engineering solutions.

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience).

• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.

• 10+ years of experience in MEP design, engineering, and project management.

• 3+ years in a leadership role within the MEP field.

• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
