Job SummaryFood Runners assist servers, supervisors, and kitchen staff in providing quality food and beverage service to guests courteously and efficiently. Staff will primarily help with pulling, organizing orders, traying up, and/or delivering food to guests. Other duties include general support for servers, hosts, supervisors, and/or bartenders when needed; stocking and maintaining condiments and other items requested by guests; and maintaining cleanliness of the dining room, side stations, kitchen service areas, dish breakdown area, and service equipment.
Job DescriptionSchedule can vary but generally 11 am‑7 pm, or 3 pm‑11 pm.
EssentialJob Duties
- Deliver the correct food items promptly and accurately to the appropriate guests.
- Offer appropriate condiments table side with courses, e.g., fresh ground pepper.
- Anticipate guests’ needs, respond promptly, and maintain positive guest relations at all times.
- Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of assigned work areas.
- Communicate any requests obtained from guests to their server, kitchen staff, and/or bartender.
- Maintain knowledge of table and seat numbers, section assignments, proper table set‑up, hours of operation, and dress code of the restaurant.
- Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all service and kitchen procedures, sanitation and food safety regulations, established standards, company and departmental policies and procedures.
- Be familiar with Biltmore services, features, activities, and special events in order to respond to guest inquiries accurately.
- Strictly abide by Biltmore and state liquor regulations, particularly those prohibiting service to minors, intoxicated persons, etc.
- Side‑work:
Ensure a sufficient supply of clean trays, assist in folding napkins, set up tray jacks, and help servers, DRAs, and bartenders with any additional side work, removal of soiled trays, glassware, dishes and flatware from the floor as needed. - Closing duties:
Properly break down and store all reusable goods and service wares per department standards, clean all equipment, work areas, and side stations, and restock items for the next service. - Provide general support and assistance to the department, leadership, and company as required.
- Previous guest/customer service experience is preferred; ideal candidates should have knowledge or prior experience working in a full‑service restaurant.
- Commitment to delivering world‑class guest service and the ability to work successfully as part of a dynamic, guest‑service oriented team.
- Outstanding attention to detail and the ability to perform essential job functions with speed and accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
- Ability to be proactive and take initiative as appropriate.
- Should be able to anticipate and understand guest needs, and follow up with them appropriately.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced environment with deadlines, and exercise good judgment.
- Lift, carry, push and pull 25–50 pounds; lift and carry 25–50 pounds on a large serving tray, above shoulder level, with one hand.
- Endure various physical movements (stand/walk, kneel, stoop, bend, reach overhead) throughout work areas and over the duration of the work shift.
- Stand/walk for extended periods of time.
- Work both inside and outdoors in an environment that may include: variable temperature and weather conditions and noise levels; exposure to fumes, dust, and chemicals.
