Village Hotel Security Officer (3rd Shift) - Reserve
The Security Officer will have the primary goal to maintain a safe and secure environment at the Village Hotel for both associates and guests. They will spend the majority of their shift on foot patrol, walking, climbing stairs of the interior and perimeter of the hotel to observe and identify potential security and safety risks or undesirable conditions. Officers will also maintain order in the hotel, deal with the welfare of guests (e.g., assisting with door lock and safe challenges), coordinate expedient response to emergency conditions such as fire or safety hazards and threats to life and property in a calm, rational and persuasive manner, and provide general assistance and support for the department, leadership, and the company as needed.
Reserve position:
Working between 40–999 hours per year. Schedule can vary, but is generally 11 pm–7 am, Sundays and Mondays. This position receives a third shift differential of an additional $2/hour.
Job Duties
- Responsible for hotel access; monitors entrances/exits and conducts daily inspections.
- Receive, record and store lost and found items. Research and respond to inquiries from guests concerning status of items. Mail out claimed items to owner.
- Conduct safety and other investigations and audits; document and log incidents.
- Escort guests and employees to parking lots; provide escort for employees carrying house banks.
- Assist guests with door lock/safe problems; control access to lock‑up areas.
- Respond/coordinate in emergency situations; manage all fire alarms and emergencies within the property.
- Mitigate liability/risk for people and property; ensure a safe environment.
- Maintain an audit of all cardkeys and hard keys to all the doors to the Inn.
- Recommend safety ideas; participate in fire prevention and other life safety programs.
- Perform the above duties during 3rd shift; the ability to work overnight hours is essential.
- Provide accurate information to inquirers for directions, hours of operation, etc.
- Inspect supply levels, cleanliness and organization of storage areas. Assign designated personnel to rectify deficiencies.
- Implement cost‑effective methods and techniques to improve efficiency and reduce claims and incidents from previous years.
- Provide general assistance/support for guests, employees, and the company.
- High school diploma. Additional training or certifications preferred.
- At least one (1) year of similar experience in guest services support, safety, security, or a related field, preferably in an upscale attraction/hotel/resort environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to delivering world‑class internal/external guest service and proven leadership skills.
- Outstanding interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills. Must communicate clearly and concisely with diplomacy and tact. Second language helpful.
- Ability to write and complete reports in standard English.
- Proactive and exercises good judgment; able to problem‑solve and troubleshoot.
- Ability to handle a variety of guest and employee situations professionally; excellent attention to detail with a focus on service and quality.
- Must be able to quickly acquire knowledge of Biltmore systems and protocols.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
- Must have or be able to obtain AED, CPR and First Aid certification.
- Occasional lifting up to 50 lb.; up to 75–100 lb. with assistance in emergency situations.
- Must be able to stand, walk, and climb as needed.
- Frequent pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, and reaching.
- Must be able to physically respond and effectively coordinate in the event of emergencies.
- May be exposed to dirt, pollen, chemicals, fluids, or other substances in the course of duty.
- May work outside with fluctuations in temperature and conditions.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid NC Driver's License.
