Are you passionate about supporting young people to overcome challenges and achieve success in education?

Engage Education is recruiting a Learning Mentor for a secondary school in Ashford, Surrey, starting in September 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is confident, resilient and committed to helping students who require additional support to fully engage with school life. The successful candidate will work closely with the pastoral and inclusion teams to provide targeted interventions and promote positive behaviour across the school.

The Role

As a Learning Mentor, you will:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group mentoring to students who require additional academic, behavioural or emotional support.
  • Support students in overcoming barriers to learning and improving their engagement in lessons.
  • Promote positive behaviour by acting as a consistent role model and encouraging high expectations.
  • Work alongside teachers to support students both in and out of the classroom.
  • Develop positive relationships with students, families and colleagues to improve outcomes.
  • Monitor student progress, attendance and wellbeing, reporting concerns where appropriate.
  • Contribute to the school’s pastoral and safeguarding systems.
The Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with young people in education, mentoring, youth work, sports coaching, social care or similar environments.
  • Has strong behaviour management skills and the confidence to manage challenging situations effectively.
  • Is patient, resilient and able to build trust with students from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Is passionate about helping young people reach their full potential.
  • Can work collaboratively as part of a wider pastoral and inclusion team.
