Location: Kingsnorth
What if your next role gave you a three‑day weekend every week while putting you at the centre of one of the largest and most significant projects in the UK’s Decommissioning history?
This is an opportunity to play a leading role on the Boilers & Ancillary Plant Removal Programme at Dungeness A Power Station, a flagship decommissioning project that will shape the future of the site for years to come. As a Senior Project Engineer, you'll have the chance to influence major engineering decisions, lead technical delivery across complex work streams and help drive one of the most ambitious programmes ever undertaken by Nuclear Restoration Services.
Alongside the scale and importance of the work, you'll benefit from a full‑time role delivered across a four‑day working week, giving you every Friday off. Whether you’re currently working in nuclear, power generation, defence, oil and gas or another heavy industrial environment, this is a rare opportunity to apply your expertise on a project that will leave a lasting legacy while opening the door to future leadership opportunities across NRS.
WhatWill You Be Doing?
As a Senior Project Engineer, you’ll be the technical focal point for major engineering activities, helping to shape solutions that enable the safe and effective delivery of decommissioning projects. Working closely with contractors, stakeholders and multidisciplinary engineering teams, you’ll provide the technical leadership needed to move projects forward while ensuring the highest standards of safety, engineering quality and regulatory compliance are maintained throughout.
You’ll play a key role in reviewing engineering solutions, guiding technical decision‑making and supporting the development of engineers across the team. This is a position for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, influencing project outcomes and taking ownership of engineering delivery on challenging, large‑scale projects.
Key Responsibilities- Providing technical leadership across complex decommissioning and engineering projects.
- Reviewing contractor design packages, technical submissions and engineering solutions.
- Acting as a CDM Designer and/or Principal Designer Advisor on assigned projects.
- Coaching, mentoring and developing engineers while supporting broader engineering team capability.
You’ll be an experienced Mechanical or Civil/Structural Engineer with a strong background delivering engineering projects in highly regulated, heavy industrial environments. While nuclear experience is welcome, we’re equally interested in candidates from sectors such as power generation, oil and gas, defence, petrochemical, infrastructure or major industrial manufacturing who can demonstrate the leadership and technical credibility needed to operate in a complex project environment.
Success in this role requires more than technical expertise alone. You’ll be someone who can confidently engage with contractors, influence stakeholders, lead engineering discussions and provide guidance to others. You’ll enjoy taking ownership, making decisions and helping teams deliver against challenging project objectives. Experience of CDM regulations and designer responsibilities will be particularly valuable, as will a passion for maintaining high engineering standards and developing those around you.
TypicalQualifications
- An HNC, engineering degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline.
- Significant experience within Mechanical or Civil/Structural engineering on industrial plant or major engineering projects.
- Strong knowledge of engineering standards and CDM Designer/Principal Designer responsibilities.
- The ability to provide technical leadership, mentor others and manage complex engineering interfaces.
This role offers a permanent four‑day working week and a permanent position with NRS, opening future leadership opportunities across the organisation.
At NRS, we value diversity and inclusion and encourage applications from underrepresented groups. We want to ensure you feel supported throughout the application process and provide reasonable adjustments where necessary and requested.
