Data Protection Manager

About the role

Data Protection Manager – responsible for the operational delivery of data protection, information governance and information security across IC24. The role requires close collaboration with senior leaders, operational teams, clinical colleagues and external partners to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and organisational responsibilities. You will also work alongside the appointed external Data Protection Officer (DPO) to shape the organisation’s response to an increasingly complex information and cyber security landscape.

• Lead and oversee data protection and governance activities, ensuring compliance with UK GDPR, DSPT and wider regulatory requirements.
• Manage data subject access requests (SARs), Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and information sharing arrangements, ensuring efficient handling and early risk identification.
• Strengthen information security by collaborating with IT and security teams on cyber security initiatives, incident response and organisational awareness.
• Act as a trusted advisor to colleagues and senior leaders, providing expert advice on complex data protection and governance matters.
• Drive continuous improvement through audits, reviews and compliance monitoring, identifying opportunities to strengthen governance, reduce risk and enhance organisational practice.

• Significant experience in Data Protection, Information Governance, Freedom of Information or Cyber Security.
• Recognised Data Protection or Information Governance qualification (or actively working towards one) and up‑to‑date knowledge of evolving legislation, guidance and best practice.
• Strong knowledge of UK GDPR, data protection legislation and information governance frameworks.
• Experience working within the NHS, healthcare or another highly regulated environment.
• Ability to interpret complex legislation and provide practical, outcome‑focused advice to colleagues and senior stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to assess risk and make sound recommendations.
• Excellent relationship‑building skills with a proactive approach to continuous improvement.

Proof of eligibility to work in the UK, satisfactory enhanced DBS disclosure and two references. The role is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and requires a Disclosure and Barring Service check.
