Water Meter Reader

Overview

We are hiring WATER METER READERS in your postcode now! This is a full‑time role working close to home with no experience required. If you enjoy an active outdoor job and want flexibility to control your schedule, this could be the right position for you.

• Collect data from water meters for both commercial and residential properties.
• Update meter reads accurately on a handheld device throughout the day.
• Enter details at each location and provide excellent customer service.

• £13.01 – £13.85 per hour basic pay.
• Weekly hours: 40–45 hours, flexible start/finish between 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.
• Annual earnings: £27,000 – £31,000 average.
• Bonus scheme with earnings up to £1 000 per month.
• Mostly Monday – Friday work, occasional Saturday.
• Weekly payment and overtime rates (£16 – £25) at manager's discretion.
• Business expenses reimbursed, company pension enrolment.
• No previous experience required with progression and promotion opportunities.
• Up to 28 days holiday per year (accrual based).
• Full uniform and PPE provided, plus a company car.
• Full training will be provided.

• Full UK driving licence (minimum 1 year, max 6 points, no DR offences – licence not required in some London areas).
• Physically fit – able to walk 5–6 miles/day, lift manholes, climb stairs, crouch, bend in tight spaces.
• Happy to work in all weather conditions.
• Clear DBS check (no unspent criminal convictions).
• Credit report check (no recent court judgments, IVA, debt relief orders).
• Previous customer service experience is preferred, not essential.

• Retrieve data from domestic, commercial, and industrial sites.
• 75 % of meters will be external.
• Meter reads mainly from commercial properties (hospitals, schools, shopping precincts, and other non‑household sites).
• Manage heavier manholes and occasional heavy lifting.
• Friendly and professional approach to work.
• Adhere to Health & Safety guidelines at all times.

One‑week training combining classroom‑based and field‑based instruction with an experienced meter reader.
