The In Post Newstrade  division specialises in final‑mile delivery for newspaper publishers and magazine distributors, covering 75% of the UK and Ireland with a 45% market share. Operating from 36 locations, it delivers almost 1bn newspapers, magazines, and collectibles to around 21,000 customers. The division includes core final‑mile operations, magazine primary distribution, corporate distribution, outsourced retail consultancy, and airside media placement.

About the role

At InPost Newstrade, we play a vital role in the UK’s newstrade supply chain, ensuring newspapers and magazines are distributed accurately and on time to retailers across the country. We’re continuing to grow and are looking for a motivated Deputy Shift Manager to support our operations and help drive ongoing success.

In this key role, you’ll support the Shift Manager in overseeing the day‑to‑day running of the operation, leading and motivating a dedicated team, and ensuring smooth, efficient workflows. Your people management skills will be essential in meeting strict publication deadlines, maintaining quality and accuracy, and driving continuous improvement. Hours:

Monday to Wednesday 02:00 am – 10:30 am / Saturday & Sunday 01:00 am – 10:30 am

💰Salary: £34,774 per annum

What you’ll be doing
  • Support the Shift Manager in overseeing day‑to‑day operations, ensuring newspapers and magazines are processed accurately and delivered on time.
  • Lead, motivate, and develop the team to achieve productivity and quality targets, fostering a positive and high‑performing working environment.
  • Assist with workforce planning, including rota management and annual leave, to ensure the operation is fully resourced at all times.
  • Monitor performance against key KPIs, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and supporting efficiency initiatives.
  • Ensure consistent adherence to Standard Operating Procedures, maintaining accuracy, quality, and operational consistency.
  • Deliver clear and effective shift handovers to ensure seamless continuity between shifts.
  • Promote a strong health and safety culture, ensuring compliance with all training and safe working practices.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and professional working environment in line with company standards.
What we need from you
  • Previous experience in a supervisory or deputy management role within a fast‑paced operational environment.
  • Strong people management skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and support teams.
  • Experience working to tight deadlines with a focus on accuracy and quality.
  • Good planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage rotas and resources effectively.
  • A proactive, hands‑on approach with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence to work closely with managers and wider teams.
  • A solid understanding of health and safety requirements and a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, nights, weekends, or peak periods as required in a newstrade operation.
