Position Overview

The Property Lead is responsible for supporting the safe, functional, and welcoming condition of camp facilities and grounds through hands‑on maintenance, inspections, and coordination of routine property needs. This role serves as the on‑site lead for daily property care, working closely with the Director of Properties to prioritize work, elevate larger projects, and support volunteers, renters, and staff. Schedule may include weekdays with limited evenings or weekends as needed based on camp usage.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 1. Property & Grounds Maintenance
  • Perform routine maintenance of camp buildings, infrastructure, and grounds, including inspecting, cleaning, repairing, and replacing worn or defective components, in accordance with priorities established by the Director of Properties.
  • Maintain camp grounds through mowing, trimming, grading of roads, and general upkeep to ensure safe and usable conditions.
  • Conduct basic construction and repair work such as minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and general repairs within skill level.
  • Operate tools and equipment safely; use heavy equipment only when trained and authorized.
2. Safety, Inspections & Standards
  • Conduct routine property inspections as directed by the Director of Properties; document all repairs; and report findings, safety concerns, and maintenance needs.
  • Ensure facilities, grounds, and equipment are safe, functional, and maintained in compliance with Council safety standards to support program delivery, summer camp operations, equestrian activities, and rental use, escalating compliance concerns promptly.
  • Assist with implementation of site security measures, emergency procedures, and safety protocols as established by the Director of Properties and Council policy.
3. Coordination & Communication
  • Serve as the on‑site lead for day‑to‑day property issues during scheduled work hours and elevate higher‑risk, budget‑impacting, or capital‑level concerns to the Director of Properties.
  • Communicate regularly with the Director of Properties regarding:
    • Maintenance needs and priorities
    • Safety concerns
  • Coordinate with approved vendors and contractors as assigned; monitor work completion for quality and safety; and report progress, issues, and outcomes.
  • Cheerfully welcome and assist staff, volunteers, renters, and guests regarding facilities and basic property questions.
4. Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain basic documentation of:
    • Maintenance activities
    • Property issues and repairs
    • Vendor services and costs
  • Submit reports or updates in formats established by the Director of Properties.
5. Organizational Support
  • Provide courteous, responsive support to staff, volunteers, renters, and guests regarding facilities, equipment, and routine property matters, referring policy or exception issues to the Director of Properties.
  • Ensure Council policies, procedures, and property‑use guidelines are consistently followed and report deviations or concerns.
  • Model behavior consistent with the mission, values, and purpose of Girl Scouts of the USA and Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned that align with a part‑time Property Lead role under Director of Properties oversight.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of three years of hands‑on property maintenance or facilities experience.
  • Experience in camp, park, facilities, or similar environments preferred.
  • Working knowledge of basic construction trades, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, roofing, masonry, and grounds maintenance.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and communicate clearly.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
  • Basic computer skills, including email and simple documentation tools.
