Responsibilities- The dispatcher-call taker position involves taking calls for scheduling and dispatching non-emergency medical services as well as emergency dispatching.
- Determine priorities and coordinate dispatching of ambulance and ambulette crews on emergency, immediate, and prescheduled calls.
- Maintain contact with, and update status and location of, all designated units.
- Enter, update, and retrieve information from a wide variety of computer systems.
- Operate a variety of communications equipment, including radio consoles and telephones.
- Effectively coordinate with other emergency services for mutual aid or support.
- Answer questions and provide information to the public over the telephone.
- Use good judgement to make decisions in emergency and routine situations.
- View CCTV monitors reporting concerns to KDMC Security Officers.
- Additional duties include scheduling dispatcher-call takers, billing, processing patient transport reports for outside billing, and overseeing day-to-day operations of the dispatch office.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain within 90 days of hire
- Current Driver's License
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Certification (within first 6 months)
- Preferred:
One year prior EMS or dispatch related experience
- This job operates in a professional office environment routinely using standard office equipment such as computers and telephone.
- The noise level in this position is usually moderate.
- Constantly required to maintain a stationary position behind a computer
- Constantly required to communicate with people telephonically requiring talking and hearing.
- Constantly required to operate a computer and telephone.
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
