Reports To:

Region Operations Manager or Field Service Supervisor

Job Summary:

Performs electrical apparatus work onsite at customer facilities. Includes electrical testing, preventative maintenance, commissioning, upgrades, and repairs of electrical apparatus.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in executing mechanical and electrical tasks on equipment used in power transmission, distribution, and generation.
  • Read and interpret manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to troubleshoot and solve equipment problems.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, replace, and clean all components in a substation.
  • Participate in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment.
  • Participate in safety meetings and training.
  • Rotate emergency on‑call duty and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner.
Testing Proficiency:
  • Transformer Testing – Power factor, TTR, insulation resistance, SFRA, winding resistance, partial discharge, and leakage reactance.
  • Cable Testing – Insulation resistance, Tanden, installer, TDR, partial discharge, and cable thumper.
  • Circuit Breaker Testing – Insulation resistance, contact resistance, power factor, breaker timing, SF6 gas analysis, CT testing, high current testing, secondary injection testing, and vacuum bottle integrity testing.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Familiar with industry standards such as NETA, NFPA 70E, OSHA compliance, safety laws, and DOT regulations.
  • Ability to assist in complex mechanical and electrical problems.
  • Strong communication and problem‑solving skills.
  • Must have strong PC skills including email, internet, data entry, and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work well under pressure to meet goals and deadlines.
  • Doble DTAF and Power DB knowledge is preferred, training will be provided.
  • Consistently on time for daily work assignments, meetings, training.
  • Demonstrates organizational skills for reporting time and expenses, weekly status reports, and other documentation.
  • Maintains tools, test equipment, and vehicles in clean, organized condition with service and calibrations.
Education and

Work Experience:

Requires a High School Diploma or GED. Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology, or military experience is preferred but not required.

Experience in electrical substation testing, construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, assembly, and commissioning is preferred, but not required.

This role is considered an introductory position to the industry. Other useful experience would include mechanical aptitude and an attitude ripe for learning.

Other Requirements:
  • Pass a pre‑employment criminal background check and motor vehicle check.
  • Pass a pre‑employment drug and alcohol test, as well as periodic, unannounced random testing.
  • Valid driver’s license and willing to obtain an endorsement to operate a combined vehicle weight up to 26k lbs.
  • Lift and maneuver at least 50 lbs.
  • Willing to obtain a company paid TWIC card, OSHA 10/30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70E, and CPR training.
