You’ll Make An Impact

The Technician III-Engine will be responsible for performing diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical and mechanical hardware and instruments in an automotive test laboratory and general facility equipment according to technical and safety needs and processes to support achieving business unit goals. Individual will also participate in establishing and maintaining safety protocols and processes.

Responsibilities
  • Installation, repair, and maintenance of the following (but not limited to):
  • Various electrical systems, electrical wiring, connections, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, lights, fixtures, and new equipment hookups around the facility.
  • Various electrical, electronic, and mechanical components and apparatus on multiple automotive test stands (IC-Engine, EV/Hybrid, chassis dynamometer test stands, and bench rigs).
  • Process, signal, and control instrumentation on test stands (Thermocouples, pressure transducers/transmitters, flow meters, control valves, sensors, actuators, analog devices, digital relays, speed, torque, throttle, dyno-command, etc.).
  • Perform instrument calibration according to technical standards in the data-acquisition systems on the test stands, maintain calibration records, and periodic calibrations of calibrator units with external NIST cert. labs.
  • Periodic and preventive maintenance on assigned systems (pumps, motors, HVAC, compressor, etc.).
  • Monitor control systems and equipment performance; ensure proper operations and minimize downtime; maintain documentation and log of issues, corrective actions, and maintenance.
  • Diagnose system problems, communicate to engineers/managers, and take corrective actions as appropriate.
  • Provide support for upgrading and improving existing systems.
  • Safety and operations related upgrades and repairs.
  • Perform plumbing using iron, PVC and copper pipes with silver soldering / brazing.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot HVAC, air-Humidity systems.
  • Purchasing parts, components and consumable supplies used on the equipment and test stand; maintain inventory. Coordinate with external vendors for purchasing, repair and periodic calibrations.
  • Schedule and work with external contractors on installation, maintenance, and repair of equipment.
  • Maintain safe working practices and conditions; participate in safety inspections and identify/correct hazards; maintain good housekeeping and follow good work practices.
  • Operate industrial equipment (forklift, scissor lift, pallet jack) to safely install or maintain machinery.
  • Provide support to engineers, operators, and other team members.
  • Other duties as determined by Valvoline from time to time in its sole discretion.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Associates Degree or Diploma in Electrical/ Electronic Technology or Mechatronics or Industrial Systems & Maintenance, or equivalent related industrial experience is a plus.
  • Able to operate computers and Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong understanding of electrical fundamentals (3-ph / 2-ph AC, DC, etc.) and standard electrical systems (conduits, wiring, motors, HVAc units, controllers, VFDs, relays, etc.).
  • Reading and interpretation of electrical wiring diagrams, schematics, and code specifications.
  • Experience with test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, calibrators, PLC interface, etc.).
  • Knowledge of NEC safety codes and Lock-Out Tag-Out procedures.
  • Working knowledge of US standard pipe dimensions, thread sizes, fittings, hoses, and tubes (NPS vs copper, etc.).
  • Understanding of US customary and SI/metric units for process parameters (temperature, pressure, flow, weight, etc.).
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and mechanical skills.
