Performs complex electrical apparatus work onsite at customer’s facilities including testing, preventative maintenance, commissioning, upgrades, and repairs. Responsible for troubleshooting, training, LOTO, customer interaction, report writing, etc.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Execute mechanical and electrical tasks on equipment used in power transmission, distribution, and generation at customer facilities.
- Read and interpret manuals, schematics, and write diagrams to troubleshoot and solve equipment problems.
- Troubleshoot, repair, replace, and clean all components in a substation.
- Lead extensive testing tasks including Transformer Testing, Cable Testing, Circuit Breaker Testing, and relay testing.
- Participate in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment.
- Plan, participate, and develop safety meetings and training.
- Support management in planning, scheduling, execution, and cost management of field projects.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Familiar with NETA, NFPA 70E, OSHA compliance standards, safety laws, and DOT regulations.
- Diagnose complex mechanical and electrical problems.
- Strong communication and problem‑solving skills.
- Proficient PC skills including email, internet, data entry, and Microsoft Office.
- Multitask, prioritize, and work well under pressure.
- Work independently with excellent judgment.
- Preferred:
Doble DTAF and Power DB knowledge; training provided. - Consistently on time for work assignments, meetings, training.
- Organizational skills to report time, expenses, status reports.
- Maintain tools, test equipment, and vehicles in clean condition and up to date with calibrations.
- Willing to relocate within 60 miles of hiring regional office.
- Corporate business hours M-F 7:30am‑4:30pm; field work may require outside hours.
- Work near live electrical substations safely.
- Work overtime including nights, weekends, some holidays.
- Travel overnight, multi‑day, out‑of‑town projects.
- Rotate emergency on‑call duty and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner.
- High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s or Associate’s in Electrical/Electronic Technology preferred; military experience preferred.
- At least 10 years in electrical substation testing, construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, assembly, and commissioning.
- Achieve NETA level III or IV within 6 months of employment.
- Project management experience supporting planning, scheduling, execution, and cost management of field projects.
- Pass pre‑employment criminal background and motor vehicle checks.
- Pass drug and alcohol testing, including periodic random testing.
- Valid driver’s license; willingness to obtain endorsement for vehicles up to 26k lbs.
- Lift and maneuver at least 50 lbs.
- Willing to obtain company‑paid TWIC card, OSHA 10/30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70E, and CPR training.
